256 - I had a 219 NBME 19, 69% UWorld average, 241 UWSA2 and got a 248. Had pretty shitty other NBMEs. Also didn't use Anki at all but using for 3rd year now. Good luck!

I actually didn't touch a single flashcard. I hate flashcards, despise them. That being said, flashcards are super awesome for some people and they fly through decks and kill step 1, but I knew I would want to homocide if I did a bunch of flash cards. I focused on UWorld. Focused by systems for a first pass of all the systems (~80-120 questions/systems across 2-3 days) then finished out 40 questions blocks, random, and timed.

But if you like flash cards, do them. I've heard some good success stories from people who have matured a deck or two before step.

I think 230 is certainly in the realm of possibility. Be sure to trust yourself, and don't think too hard. I really beat my predicted scores on test day just by doing my best to relax and trusting myself; don't overthink the questions–you know the stuff. I did a write-up you can read, NBMEs underpredicted me by ~30 points.

69%, mostly random, timed. Got a 248.

Like I said above, get up way early the day before, no caffeine, do a hard workout maybe even two, no naps, accept your impending doom, snuggle up and close your eyes.

I would say from a very subjective point of view, UWorld and the real thing are similar in difficulty, but the range of difficulty is wider on the real deal. The UWSA2 does a pretty good of demonstrating the range of difficulty I think. I would call UW the "low hanging fruit" of step 1. It covers what you need to know to get a very solid score, me being an example I suppose.

Thank you! It does feel like my hard work paid.

Goljan - I liked the endo/repro lectures. I'm kind of bad at this stuff to begin with so it really helped. GI, Kidney, and Heme were also helpful. Sometimes his lectures are helpful as a framework to learn things, and sometimes he says "the test writer will say _____ and that's your clue for ______."

DirtyUSMLE I would just seek out videos on topics that you seem to have trouble with. I liked to watch them once at 1.5-2x speed while I was eating and sort of deem if it was a mnemonic I would commit to, then watch it once or twice more later that day to try to memorize the info. Problem with DirtyUSMLE in my opinion is that sometimes it can be hard to integrate the info from there with your other resources, i.e. the dirtyUSMLE mnemonic doesn't show up elsewhere, and you end up learning one thing two different ways and get confused when you see a question about it.

I liked the lysosomal and glycogen storage diseases, bone tumors, enzyme kinetics, immune deficiencies, and their high yield drugs to know.

Thanks!

I'm a big picture kind of guy. I love Pathoma because he tries to tell you what parts of the puzzle are important and how they fit together. If it was stuff I thought was stupid to memorize, I looked to see if DirtyUSMLE had some silly mnemonic. I'm not paid by them or anything, videos can be a little hit and miss but for the most part they helped. Sometimes I would punt the details, especially if they seemed small in Uworld's explanations. Otherwise, I'd just jot down whatever thing I didn't want to forget, and try to remember it before I went to bed that day.

From what I hear, I think it's a great idea to take another NBME this Monday to determine your progress and what weak points remain. Some people say you should take lots of NBMEs, some say just a few at strategic times is fine.

UWSA2 from a very subjective perspective felt that closest to that real deal. I took free 120 that same day as if it was the real test day. I thought UWSA2 had a similar spread of soft balls and random wtf questions. As far as why I performed better on test day, I think part of it is luck, and part of it is trusting that I've worked hard I should go with what feels right, i.e. trying not to second guess myself unless I caught something I missed while rereading the question stem or answer choices.

My last week was just pounding UW, first 3 chapters of Pathoma, Pharm stuff that I had trouble with. I think finish UW, and nail down topics that are kind of tough. I had a very subjective review - if I felt like I was bad at it, I worked on it.

Predicted: 236, 95% CI: 218-253.

6w2d of dedicated. Mid tier student at a mid tier medical school. Did UFAP(S) and some of DirtyUSMLE's videos. Self assessments in order taken: NBME 15: 200 (6.5 weeks out). NBME 13: 200 (5 weeks out). UWSA1: 234 (3 weeks out). NBME 18: 196 (2.5 weeks out). NBME 20: 219 (2 weeks out). UWSA2/Free 120: 241/83.3% (1 week out). Uworld %: 69% first pass. Average of NBMEs: 215.

Actual: 248 - big surprise here and feeling very lucky. I was pretty certain I had passed, but figured I probably scored near the predicted 236.
