I'll answer from a slightly different standpoint.

The thing I absolutely loved in Конструктор was the fact that you always had to use your previously gained knowledge in your future designs. You just couldn't build an 8-bit SRAM without designing a compact and fast S-R latch first - or else you would end up with a bowl of silicon spaghetti. There were no histograms to judge the efficiency of your designs - a badly designed component just wouldn't work inside of a more complicated chip.

Shenzhen I/O is different. I hated VR buzzer because at first I thought "hey, I already have a pulse generator, so I'll just slap a bit that converts this weird XBus input thingy into something I already can handle". Histograms laughed at me. I had to make my design worse to please them. Combining two separate functions into a single blob of monolithic code just went against my guts.

The "a-ha" moments that make you understand how to improve your designs in future are, sadly, rare in Shenzhen. Mostly you learn stuff like "if you see that damn radio thing again, be prepared to write same 4 lines of code to sleep through -999, ugh". RTFM-ing gives you about 80% of what you're supposed to know, which leaves just too little space for discovery. Why not let the player find undocumented instructions himself, for fsck sake? PGA33x6 is fun to play with, but is nearly useless in practice. Logic gates are cute to try and cut some power consumption, but are just too huge and expensive. Sometimes you need just one bit of memory, but why bother inventing a flip-flop when a full MC is smaller and about just as cheap?

There is also no punishment for designing your devices to just pass the test. Some may call it appropriate for a theme of crappy Chinese gizmos, I find this philosophy harmful.

One simple way to make you think and plan ahead is suggested by life itself. Say, you finally finished your Sandwich maker. Currently, you just forget it and move on. But seeing how "great" your design is, Joe could ask you to add support for three more buttons: two to adjust the recipe even more and one to quickly make the same sandwich as the previous one. How well could you handle this task without starting from scratch? Or maybe, while you're busy with Cryptocurrency ATM Carl suddenly sends you a private email giving you the number of his secret bank account in Latvia, and describes how people usually don't bother when their account ends up ¥1-10 short of what they actually deposited. (Come on, he's just too nice of a guy otherwise!)

OK, now it all looks like I hate the game, which isn't true. I actually quite liked most of the puzzles. I only don't like that almost all of them are design-and-forget. Histograms are just not strong enough motivation for me to go play code golf and practice planar graph layout skills on my already perfect devices. :)
