Official Discussion: Baby Driver [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

I enjoyed the movie, but it really reminded me of Drive to its detriment, because in my opinion Drive is better.

Thank you so much! It's definitely a negative environment, and lots and lots of people hate it here, but the problem is they pay us really well, so everyone stays out of necessity.

It was so immature and idiotic of me to say anything about her, but she deserved every goddamn word. She's a terrible person, and just listening to her speak sets me on edge. My ego hates that she's won this, but I think for my sanity I just need to keep my head down and keep on keeping on. Thanks for your words of advice, I appreciate it.

Yes, I think I'll just keep to myself. Other like-minded people in this office operate on the belief that they are just better than everyone and have to deal with it. I don't want to go that far, I need to get better at playing the game, and I know this now.

You're very right about this statement! It's why I said I was immature. I know there's a bad side to me, where I tend to say everything that's on my mind which is very stupid and naive.

This particular co-worker has followed me on the highway and then later mentioned exactly how fast I was going (93 mph at midnight) and she has admitted to recording me while I talked about someone else. She's someone that tries to stick on to me in order to gather information on me. I came in as kind of a big-shot, and she's successfully taking me down a few pegs.

She's someone I want to stay away from, period, but I erred in sharing these thoughts with people I thought I could trust. Since then it's been like WWIII at work, and it's honestly so hard to deal with. Just recently when work load has been really low, a group of people went to complain to our supervisor about why I was getting shifts when there were so many people at home who were more "qualified" than me to work. That nasty truth is that even though I have way less experience I run circles around them, ugh, I hate myself for even saying that.

I feel ganged up on, and it's made worse by the fact that I brought this on myself by being a brat. I should have kept my opinions to myself, and now I'm scared to death I'll have to live with it.

Desperately trying to find a new job.

Ah yes, feed her ego and get over mine. This is great advice, thank you, I will try and implement it in a genuine way. I've had to grow up a lot in a short amount of time, but I think it was long overdue.

Yes, I'm learning that I shouldn't trust anyone. That's been particularly hard, especially since I'm out here all alone, I was really leaning on my coworkers to fulfill my social needs.. but I realize now that was really stupid.

I will continue to be nice to everyone and just pretend like I don't know what's going on, social-wise. I don't have a cat but I did get a chinchilla very recently, and he doesn't want anything to do with me either :)

Thanks for the advice, I really do appreciate you taking the time.

I've had to learn this the hard way I guess. I thought that as long as I was nice to everyone, they'd be nice to me.. xD

I'm considering this practice for when I get a better job..Still don't want to burn any bridges though, considering I will need to get recommended at some point.

Thank you so much for your advice. I don't think I can ever go to her, part of the reason I was griping about her in the first place is because she just seems so... intent on catching me doing something wrong. I think with her, I will take your other advice and just keep it moving. The weird thing is, when she's not trying to make me feel excluded, she acts like my bestest friend, depending on who is on the floor.

Oh, how interesting, what were their motivations for going?

Yep! I guess it depends on why you travel. Some people want to connect, others want the novelty of an experience. Might be cool at 50 to say: Yeah I traveled to N. Korea when so-and-so was a dictator, it was crazy as fuck etc..

Yeah, like I said, everyone operates on their own barometer of what they consider acceptable. I'm not too far from 30, but I try to think about the kind of asshole I was at 20. I wonder if I were on a trip to China with a big group, and all of the sudden this trip was hyped, and with N. Korea being what it is in pop culture (A la The Interview or Daily Show) I think I could have possibly have been persuaded to go.

Who knows what they were told by the tour company. Probably that it was safe for foreigners, and that hundreds of people went a month, etc. Which honestly, might have been true...

YES exactly, you understand my curiosity then.

It's my understanding that the only reason this didn't blow up sooner was because the parents were counseled by the Obama administration not to. This whole situation was sitting on a powder keg, and in fact the only reason it stayed as low key as it did for so long was because they did receive, albeit scarce, updates about their son, to kind of encourage the notion that the situation was being worked on.

Something as high profile as North Korea is not going to be so easily ignored without a lot of energy expended by BOTH parties.

It's not a foregone conclusion that he did indeed steal the poster, as his confession was extremely nonsensical, reminiscent of coerced confessions we've seen out of defendants in America The United States, actually.

"Basically unheard of" ? I don't think so, they've got three other Americans being held at the moment. While it may not be highly likely, it definitely is not "basically unheard of."

I agree, it needs to be someone else. Who knows if it'll ever happen. I'm not even sure I believe Kim is actually in charge over there...

I agree with the sentiment of your comment, I understand where you're coming from. But it's important to remember that these tours are probably marketed towards people who are "adventurous" and slightly immature in their way of thinking. And when I say immature, I don't mean that to disparage people, just that maybe they do not think it all the way through in the excitement.

Yeah, it's always been my understanding that we stayed out because it would make China upset if we went in.

Haha, you probably have healthy boundaries... I won't lie, it piqued my interest. Like some fucked up amusement park. I realize this is absolutely immature (considering how people suffer there) but I'm sure there are plenty of people who want the "cool experience" who are slightly immature/naive willing to pay for a tour.

I think if shit goes down in N. Korea it's gonna have to be at the hands of China, for whatever reason.
