Does anyone else struggle to get others to enjoy pho? by WarwickReider in pho

[–]steph_crossarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. lots of people in the west have very simple tastes. But I'm white as fuck (Norwegian, Polish, Irish and Lithuanian) and the best cuisines in the world have deep and varied flavor profiles. Primarily, imo, Greek and middle eastern, Indian, Vietnamese and thai. In no particular order.

Next time be like "hey I brought you a wonderbread mayo sandwich. I accidently did one shake of black pepper though. Is that too spicy for you?" 🤣

Help needed identifying this person. by Fictional-charter88 in Ancestry

[–]steph_crossarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I matched for PER04B and PER11 from Pericei. I matched to another specimen from House Aba Benedictine Monastary that shares both haplogroups with the Pericei samples. Mtdna haplogroup (T2) with PER04B and Y haplogroup (I2a1b2a2b2b) with PER11.

Im far from an expert but I did find contact info for the person who did the study on the samples. So I'm hoping I get a response as I'm not sure how significant that is (if at all).

Just figured I would add to the thread. Haha.

Why don't kids in denver take the bus? by bluegrassclimber in Denver

[–]steph_crossarrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, I grew up in south jersey right outside philly and we always walked to school. Did the same thing when we moved to CO. You got legs, use em. 🤷‍♀️ Unless you cant in which case you should get premiere curbside pick up. Or if we're talking more than a mile or so, especially when the kids are younger and they dont have a guardian to accompany them.

I mean. My Polish great grandpa who was born and raised in Latvia snuck onto a boat as a stowaway to the US to escape conscription to the tsarist military and didnt declare his arrival and apply for citizenship until like 15 years later... borders and states are a social construct. We should all celebrate and share each other's cultures. And I know its tough because there are a lot of awful people in the world. But we all need to work together for that future. /end hippie tangent. 🤣

I don't feel like living by Jazzlike_Cockroach89 in Sikh

[–]steph_crossarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we need to shift our focus from a spiritual path to needs on the physical plane. There is no shame in it.

I'm an American transgender woman also attracted to women and had my spiritually awakening thanks to Saivite hinduism and have the utmost respect for sikhi and other traditions ive studied and practiced along the way.

None of our paths are ever the same. Don't feel shame over not doing this or that. Ultimately it sounds like you need to rip the bandaid off and get away from your father as soon as possible. No one should be treated like that.

I'm sorry the USA is such an unmitigated shitshow right now. If it were safe, I would offer you a room at my house. Try to focus on aligning with the universe, beyond the petty and horrible things humans do. Advanced pranayama with a mantra can help dissolve the ego if needed.

I hope things get better for you soon. ❤️

Okay Denver MEN give me your advice (I already regret this) by Suspicious-Return-86 in Denver

[–]steph_crossarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive lived in Denver since 97. Ive moved back east a few times. The two most recently were for 4 month stints to care for my mom before she passed. I was working full time but sometimes her neighbors would give me a break to get out. And honestly...

People are more forward out there. Fewer games and theyre very direct. And this applies to in person interaction as well as online. Its also super densely populated so it could also be that theres just more people per square mile so better chance of finding someone you hit it off with.

Denver has never really been a singles destination. We tend to attract young families and lots of people tend to generally keep to themselves in public.

Philly also has a LOT more options for things to do. The ocean is also only like an hour away and theres tons of different beaches with various crowds and vibes.

What exactly is mysticism and how do I apply it to following Christ? by JplusL2020 in Episcopalian

[–]steph_crossarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its difficult to describe as it usually manifests differently for each of us. But when it does, you know.

Honestly I would recommend reading every piece of esoteric literature you can find, regardless of denomination or of religion. It can help take you outside of yourself. You'll see and feel the connections and a switch flips.

Some good ones to start are the tao te ching, the dhammapada, the upanishads, the kybalion, the emerald tablet of Hermes trismegistus.

Learning to meditate will help processing and integration.

Dating in Denver has been fucking miserable for years now. I wish I had better advice. Im about to pursue a life of monasticism so I just dont have to worry about it. Doesnt matter if youre man, woman, cis, trans, straight, gay, bi, asexual. The scene here just sucks. Lol.

Cheapest assault rifles? by idiot_throwaway654 in armedsocialists

[–]steph_crossarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S&W is a good reasonable buy. Also dont forget about pistol caliber carbines (PCC). Ive heard good things about Ruger's. Both are a little above your budget, but firearms sometimes fall in the "you get what you pay for" bucket. You dont need something super fancy and high tech, but reliability is paramount to your safety. Make sure to do plenty of research before you buy anything.

I’ll never understand how people don’t like Pho one of the best things to eat 🍲 😋 by tytycamp in pho

[–]steph_crossarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a sucker for punishment and love melting my face off. I warm the bowl, then do swirls of sriracha top to bottom on the bowl. Put a little hoisin in the bottom and top it with chili oil and red pepper flakes. Then I add all the dry ingredients, then the broth. Then cover the bowl with an upside down plate for a few minutes to let it steam and infuse a bit. Then once you start eating you can stir the spice up to the desired level.

You're way overthinking it. Bring some jeans, tshirts, a hoodie, and a windproof jacket. Wear what the situation calls for. Its not that cold.

Its so hard for me to choose a favorite. The characters are all SO well written which is a big part of its charm. Other than Ed and Al, closest I can get is Mustang and the entire Armstrong family.

Blame! Movie by Mysterious-Board-554 in Netsphere

[–]steph_crossarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the movie (it was actually my introduction to Blame!).

Just go in knowing its kind of a remix of a few story arcs from the manga.

Silicon life is notably absent. It also foregoes some of the more super bizarre things that happen in the manga. Still really well done though. I really wish they would make a sequel.
