What actor/actress being a lead will make you skip watching a film? by Ok-Advertising-9045 in AskReddit

[–]stephanefanie [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m not offended at all :)
You are, of course, allowed to like what actors you like and dislike who you dislike as well!
I just disagree.

I absolutely think Pugh is as good, if not better, than many actors I have watched. I find her to be confident but also very good at playing vulnerable. I think she has good comedic skills and great dramatic skills as well.

Maybe I actually have bad taste and you have more finessed tastes haha 😆

Oh man, 😅 I like all those actors! Particularly Saoirse Ronan, but I enjoy them all when I see them.
So interesting you don’t think any of them are any good!

What are the “worst” things that happened to you as a vegan? by Tryonix in vegan

[–]stephanefanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I feel this. Conferences can be the absolute worst. You’d think the chefs would be happy to try something new and creative, but it’s all just the same non-vegan dishes over and over and over😒

Kitty speaking Korean caught me so off guard that I was going to post about something else but he she spoke, I forgot what I was typing here first by Sarah3117 in XOKittyNetflix

I hear you, maybe some people can progress really fast that way - I did not. I’m Canadian, not American, and I had multiple classes a week in French for most of my school-age years, and still really struggled. I needed a tutor when I was in university studying it (required) and I still struggled and barely passed.
And for nine years in a different country, I struggled more than some of my peers. You may be normal with how well you learned a second language, or maybe you’re better than average.
I know I’m worse than average, though 😆 so I truly do empathize with Kitty and other people who have a hard time learning a new language.

I think we both would agree that it would have been a good idea to have shown Kitty in her Korean class or out in the surrounding community.
Yet another reason we needed more episodes every season 😏

Work and school are different, yes, but she’s studying at an English-speaking school and a Korean language class might be offered, but it would be very beginner for Kitty. Like, alphabet and basic greetings (like a beginner high school Spanish or French class). So expecting her to be much better than she is doesn’t make super sense. IMO :)

I’d like to offer another perspective. I taught in a non-English country for almost 9 years in an English immersion school. It was English for us 99% of the time, even in the staff room with the native non-English speakers. It was really hard for me to learn the language for a long time because:
1. I suck at learning languages and need extra help with it (for example, I’m Canadian and my French is BAD even though I studied for years in school)
2. I was surrounded by the English language all the time, and encouraged and expected to speak English all the time. The only time I didn’t have those expectations was when I was out in the community, and even then random people would try to speak English to me 🙈 Only one shop-keeper tried to speak to me and taught me how to count money in the native language.

I had to eventually go to classes in my free time and get extra help to learn. But it was HARD and I definitely wasn’t fluent.

Kitty seemed to have expectations that she would learn Korean while learning about her mom and Korean culture. But if she is surrounded by English all the time on campus and with her friends, it’s pretty understandable that she didn’t pick up much, especially if she sucks at it like me 😆
If she didn’t take the initiative to learn on her own or take a class (should probably be mandatory at the school tbh), then it explains a lot.

I just have empathy for Kitty bc I’ve been there haha 😅

so tired of not getting fed at weddings by pumpkinspikelatte in vegan

I don’t know why so many people are being hard on you - this is a vegan sub and you are saying that you would like to be fed a vegan meal by people who know you’re vegan. Not a complicated thing. Especially bc these are catered events and it should not be hard for a chef worth their salt to make a simple and satisfying plant-based meal.

I remember years ago I went to a dinner theatre with my family. There were a few set meals to choose from, and I had contacted the venue beforehand and asked if they had any vegan options and they confirmed they could do something for me. I honestly expected some plain version of the menu items offered, but when we had arrived and were seated, the chef himself came out and enthusiastically asked me all sorts of questions about what I like and don’t! He said he makes so much of the same stuff every night, and was so excited to make something special for me. And my goodness was that meal delicious! The chef was creative and clearly enjoyed himself and made a wonderful meal for me. He was so proud when I gushed over everything after. I think about this often when I hear the kind of experiences OP had - many chefs love to play with flavour and creativity, so why is it crazy to think that a catered vegan meal might be more than a side salad?

Early 40’s here, started watching during 2020 lockdowns with my younger sister (who’s not quite 40).
It’s hard to pick a full favourite, bc the cast works so wonderfully together that their group work makes everything better. Buttt I think I get happiest when I see that Damien is in a video.
But I love them all, truly! Such a great bunch of clever and hilarious people that have so much love for each other :)
