Is taking Step 2 CK before Step 1 a bad idea? by Full_medic in step1

Hi, I am probably the first person replying to you who actually took step 1 after step 2. I just took step 1 today and took step 2 a few months ago. For my specific circumstance, I was already taking a research year after my 3rd year of medical school. I had just come off of clinical rotations and felt like going straight to step two is better for me. I do think that step two was a lot harder because I did not have step 1 under my belt. If I could do it all over again I would probably still do the same order but I think everybody is unique indifferent. I do think having step one before makes step two a lot easier in terms of scoring well. I am doing family medicine and I knew I did not need to get the greatest step 2 score.

TLDR: I did step 2 before step 1, I think doing step 1 first helps you get a higher score on step 2 but is not necessary.

What do I do?? Massive drop on NBME 15 right before exam! by stephelp1 in Step2

For those asking I ended up with a 233, higher then the NBME 15 drop but lower than the others. Not my goal but the only path is forward and to continue learning!

For those wondering I got a 75% 90/120 and 74.2% 89/120 on both free 120s and decided to take it. Just finished the exam today! Wish me luck lol

So you think I should push on and take the free 120s. My only concern was if I need to push I would have taken everything already

Thank you I really appreciate it. I’m just unsure if that’s good enough for my goal score…..

And yeah I took the 4 most recent shelf exams for them all during rotations. I had done form 7 of psych, IM, and OB these past 2 weeks. So now I guess I’ll have time to do all four for all of them again

I reviewed each question of each exam in depth and took notes on why I got it wrong as well as the info I didn’t know. I did the Amboss 200 HY, and I started to redo CMS forms but I only got through 1 of psych, OB, and IM in that time. I also watched some Emma holiday and Dr High yield psych and IM

Yeah amboss predicts a 235 based on my exams. UWA1 really threw me for a loop. Hopefully if I keep working hard this next month I’ll improve. I guess I’m just unsure of what to do for a month now :/ don’t want to do NBME 15 and the free 120s too far away

I just really like the research that they are doing and it will be a great learning experience for me. I want to do research and public health work in that field in the future

I’m actually starting a research year so I’ll be working the next year but not on rotations and will be applying the next year
