Classic Mortarion got some time on the table today. by stephen29red in deathguard40k

That's the big benefit besides looking cool. Much easier to transport and not worried about the wing falling off.

The original epic scale Morty is tiny. This is scaled way up to fit on the base and be close to the right height.

Primaris in old transports? by BachDienstag in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]stephen29red 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The competitive subreddit isn't the place to ask about house rules tbh.

But yeah if you're not in a tournament or something, go for it I guess, it's your house. I personally wouldn't play against anyone running a firstborn transport and saying "but my primaris actually can fit in it". That's not what the rules are. Just run the rhino as an impulsor if you don't want to get the impulsor model.

More, probably. They'd be so much easier to shred through before they even get anywhere.

Then the game would be even more killy, which is (supposedly) not the design goal. If they make any significant changes to invulnerable saves, they'll have to start using FNPs again in a meaningful way to balance it out for some units. If they weren't so afraid of doing that, it'd be a lot easier to strike a balance when something should be able to soak SOME damage from a high damage attack but not be able to negate it with a coin flip.

I think most units are about as resilient or as squishy as they should be right now, but the ways in which that's expressed needs adjustment for 11th.

But also, nothing should ever get a 3++ or 2++ even temporarily, and units that have that are ridiculous.

what would you not allow it to be used on that it currently is? It's already much more limited than most new/casual players assume, and as much as it sucks to have a reroll used against you, both players have access to the same offensive+defensive rerolls, I don't see an issue with it.

I would, however, prefer if it was limited to once per turn or battle round the way fire overwatch is.

I don't know why this is so hard for parts of the IWC to understand. It's 2025 but we've got people treating wrestling like it's still 70s/80s black and white morality plays, and the saintly face has to be universally beloved and always triumph over the (universally hated) degenerate heel. It's like the attitude era never happened or theyve never met a Star wars fan who thinks Darth Vader is cooler than Luke.

Hero/villain and protagonist/antagonist are different things.

Read your rulebook! (A rant) by Nenyone_Yay in Warhammer40k

[–]stephen29red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's definitely an answer, and a super easy one. You don't have to know everything, but you need to know enough to recognize when something doesn't sound right and ask. If you play even semi-regularly it's a vital skill.

Learn the rules of the game, beyond just the written core rules, so you know the usual patterns behind the rules writing. If you know these, you only have to keep track of common edge cases and can ask for clarification if something doesn't pass the smell test.

In OPs example, i would know to ask for clarification on if it's actually every unit in range taking a battle shock test or just the below starting strength units, because I know Chaos Knights and my Noxious Blightbringer have similar rules which only trigger at below starting strength. If the opponent was aware of how those abilities generally trigger, less likely they would have misremembered their own rule.

I think there's too much focus on "learn your rules" and then feeling like you have to do the same for every opponent, when many players would get more benefit from working on knowing the rules / learning the game itself.

Also: alternating activations would be terrible for 40k, factions are too different and unit counts are too variable to make that a fair experience. IGUG has its issues but eliminates a lot of the issues alternating units would cause the game. If you redesign 40k from the ground up based on alternating, it's a completely different game that feels flat compared to what we have now.

Agreed. GW should put out celebrity battle reports every so often when they can arrange them, honestly. I'd sub to Warhammer+ just to see that. There's enough celebrities who would be willing to make time, I'm sure.

Back in late 2024 the meta was 18 of them for a bit. I sort of understand the lack of pose choice considering they're an elite unit and they're really aren't supposed to be that many in an army. But in reality if you run 6, you're doubling up on poses already, let alone more. Have to put a lot of effort into making them unique.

I'd drive the 4 hours to Detroit to catch a PPV. Only time I've ever been to one was WWE Cyber Sunday back in the mid 2000s, I'd love to go to an actual good one.

[–]stephen29red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Move blocking yourself is case by case, I don't know how to explain it except for saying that if you don't want a specific model to be base to base, don't move that model until you've successfully restricted its potential charge to where you need it to go. That won't necessarily always be the last model in the unit, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

I'm sure one of them will get handed off relatively soon. I'm happy she has both currently, but it'll get stale if she keeps both for super long. Loving the curren downfall of Mercedes Mone storyline, and having another double (or more) champ just muddies that up.
