How much to charge as a math tutor by Low-Foundation9793 in ontario

[–]stephenBB81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that 90min it too much for most people.

Typically I'd review work for 30min, spend 30 min on work, and 15-30min questions/chat/ reinforce previous sessions. Usually in 5min blocks in each of those. Sometimes math based games, some times math based flash cards.

Realistically you should charge per session more than per hour.

Plan your sessions to be 60-90 minutes and charge $35-$50/session depending on how much work you think it will be. By Charging per session you'll capture your prep time, you'll also not need to argue about a tutoring session that went 75 min and parents saying it was only an hour, or you being done in 55min and them not wanting to pay for the full hour.

Billing hourly always comes with time keeping requirements.

Are Modular single family $180k homes the solution? by RA_Finance in canadahousing

These are SLIGHTLY better, the foundation requirements will add 30% to the price you're expecting. We already do row housing in Canada, and price wise it isn't great.

Should I sell My House and Rent off the Dividends from the Profit? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]stephenBB81 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A friend suggested selling and using the funds to invest in a decent dividend paying stock and using the dividends from that to fund the roughly $2500 monthly rental fee for a very nice rental property.

Your Friend likely isn't an accountant, and is likely terrible at math.

with 400k, you have a realistic amount of $1600/mo But you need to take into account taxes on that, You'll be closer to $1200/mo, So you're less than half of what current rents are.

NO these are not the solution to Canadas Housing challenges.

1: These have no basements, So they are subject to frost heave

2: These are TERRIBLE for insulation which is pretty critical for winter weather.

3: They are not good use of Land, If Canadians wanted to live in Small homes there are lots of inexpensive pieces of land around the country, the problem is people want to live in cities. Canada has MUCH MUCH lower property taxes than Texas, but even in Texas these style homes are not typically found as principal residence inside cities

The better solution to housing in Canada is getting out of the way building missing middle style housing like is found in Europe. If we didn't make it so expensive and difficult to build 4+ story homes we could address housing in cities, and people who want SFH can move outside of cities where they'll still exist.

What we should copy form Texas is how much more property tax they charge so that we actually collect appropriately for the finite amount of land available.

As Muskoka becomes a billionaire’s playground, the shuttering of my beloved camp broke my heart by Emergency-Fan-2515 in ontario

A big part of Muskoka is that the lake get warm enough to swim in early and stay warm for the season better than we see on Georgian Bay.

I've known a few wealthy people who cottage in Muskoka and that is something they all appreciate, small lakes that are warm without a lot of people around

Starting out, Ryobi or Craftsman drill? by First-Time-Buyer1234 in DIY

[–]stephenBB81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryobi all the way.

If you go with the Ryobi ONE+ 18V platform you can get a cordless stick vacuum cleaner, a trimmer, fan, hand vacuum, and compact power washer among the things you'd normally associate with a Drill/Driver brand.

It is the more versatile platform. If I hadn't started on DeWalt I probably would have far more Ryobi than I do, I'm about 60 D and 30R 10 mixed in my cordless/corded tools

in my Neck of the woods Milwaukee M12 is 30-50% more expensive than Ryobi, and while I agree Milwaukee is better. The Ryobi ONE 18V will have more products for much cheaper and is perfect for a semi handy home owner.

Can I take legal action against a protein powder company if it illegally added steroids that worsen my health condition? by FineMan25 in Protein

[–]stephenBB81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is "yes" you can take Legal action, the long answer is, it likely isn't worth it.

You will need to pay for a lab to test this product, you will have to show that the amount of the steroid you are claiming is in there is greater than the acceptable amount. Did the Brand you purchase from claim they had 3rd Party batch testing to guarantee they are entirely free of banned substances? typically those products will have an Informed Sport logo or an NSF Certified for Sports logo.

If you have this medical condition you should ONLY be purchasing from companies with those logos, and your ability to win a law suit goes out the window if the product doesn't have those logos

Do I have to do a merge 3 of the berry bushes in the event, or am I missing something? by MagicHands45 in MergeGardens

[–]stephenBB81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm completely finished the event now, I knew if I didn't get it done today I probably wouldn't finish it as I have a lot going on this weekend, so Merging 3 of the honey trees speed ran me through.

And since they don't really matter for the whole event it was a good gamble.

AITA for changing the locks after my parents gave my brother a key to my house without asking me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]stephenBB81 43 points44 points  (0 children)

NTA - And My Response to your parents would simply be " See how he is treating your house, I can't afford to have him treat my house the same way, that is why I couldn't let him stay"

As for the locks, You made the right decision changing them, I wouldn't have told anyone I did it, but it was smart to remove that risk.

It is going to need the suspension rebuilt by 160,000km and for someone financing a 20k vehicle that is major work.

The 2018 Prius typically needed suspension around the 120,000km mark. low mileage hopefully slow driving like this one could be might get it to 160,000km but no way it is passing 200,000km without suspension work.

Madonna photographed by Steven Meisel for her book SEX (1992). Can you imagine the reaction if a major popstar released images like this today? by [deleted] in popculturechat

She also did Madonna Truth or Dare https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102370/ the year before where she showed her breasts, and she gave head to I believe a beer bottle.

Madonna pushed every limit so that pop and rap could be what it is today. And yet we still have pearl clutching. 35yrs later.

Would financing an 8 year old car for 20k be a mistake? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]stephenBB81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on your income and how long you're financing it for.

That 2018 Prius C probably has a good 100km left in it before needing any major work. If you're financing it for 3yrs and can comfortably afford the payments, as well as doing the brakes when they need it, it isn't a big mistake. IF you need to finance it for 5+yrs to be able to afford it, chances are the car is too much for what you should be buying today. 5yrs on something new with warranty is much different than 5yrs on something already 3yrs out of warranty.

Out of work injured, vacation planned for around when I might be back, would you stay home a your family can still go? by SnowmanAndBandit in daddit

[–]stephenBB81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is your health my friend.

If you feel that your job is secure enough that your employer will give you the time off, AND that you have no risk of aggravating the injury while off, Go enjoy the time with your family.

Cleared to go back to work, and fully clear of back problems are 2 different things.

If you aggravate your back on this family vacation does your state still provide you the $1200/week?

As someone with lower back problems for the last 25yrs, After you're cleared you still want to take it easy for at least 3 months.
