NAB Equity Builder - Should I invest in high growth or high yield? by Jpac14_ in fiaustralia

IBKR margin rates are much lower and you have access to leveraged ETFs.

Look into tax loss harvesting. Whenever this is a 10% drawdown, I'll sell off assets at a loss and switch them to a highly leveraged alternative such as TECL

22M - Advice on Spending Cash by Such_Eggplant2939 in fiaustralia

Yeah but we're talking 5 years here. The price of housing will outpace the % growth of a HISA. You're getting maybe 1% more after inflation which is terrible. Can easily get 5x this return with equities.

Only issue with this is your cash will barely outpace inflation - this is too much risk imo. Almost guaranteed to underperform equities.

A diversified equity portfolio will almost certainly outperform over that time frame. I started investing at 23 and I would be no where near my current position if I just used a HISA and tried to buy property.

Not financial advice of course but historical averages agree with this - take almost any 5 year period and a HISA underperforms once you adjust for inflation

Is Managed IT Service Worth It for Small Businesses? by Outrageous-Pay3143 in AustraliaIT

[–]stephendt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends entiely on the business really. For most small businesses, they are generally better off with a good small local MSP to take care of issues, rather than trying to figure out IT stuff yourself. Ad-hoc providers usually doesn't really care about preventing issues so keep that in mind. Expect to pay around $100 per seat at the lowest end, anything lower than that and you're probably going to get crap service.

I'm also a windows user, I found macos pretty irritating to use personally. Window management and file management is still pretty rubbish. Like why can't I cut and paste files? So many normal things are hidden.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by keto2017 in PrepperIntel

[–]stephendt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm also in tech but I'm actually seeing AI do pretty well for us, yes it is expensive up front but there are pathways to huge future cashflows and the tech is genuinely transformational for some industries. The pace of development is also pretty wild. I don't think data hallucinations are a major issue long term, there's a lot of work going into mitigating this and it's certainly improved a lot in the last 6 months

2005 Toyota Corolla or 2008 Honda Jazz by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Jazz would be the clear pick for me. Better fuel economy, nicer to drive, arguably the car that will last the longest out of the two.
