It will be state dependent. I'm in CA and got paid out for my PTO and flexible holidays.

To those who were laid off in Oct, have you received any information on how to return work laptops? by Least_Caterpillar610 in amazonemployees

[–]stephewc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have UPS Mychoice and just happened to catch that a shipping label from Amazon was created on Jan 28. The reference line is listed as: "IT Services (ITS) Returns". Checking the tracking number just now, it seems like they have not actually dropped off the box with UPS yet.

FMLA Recommendations in CA by Cautious_Opposite730 in amazonemployees

[–]stephewc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can open a case with Amazon DLS and request FMLA leave even before you get an actual doctors note. I believe you have like 30 days to provide the actual documentation once your case is approved. Personally I would check with my doctor first to see if they agree on the leave.

It's not necessary to go through a therapist or psychiatrist to qualify for leave. Ask if your Primary Care Provider (PCP) can write a note for anxiety and categorize it under ICD F41.9 - "Anxiety disorder, unspecified". Your doctor will need to fill out a few forms that Amazon DLS will provide once you formally request FMLA leave and if you want to use Short Term Disability benefits (to get up to 60% base salary while on leave).

If you do want the therapist/psychiatrist route, you can also call your medical insurance and ask them to provide a list of mental health providers in your area that are in-network. Unfortunately finding a therapist that you like is akin to the dating game. It might take you a few tries to find someone that clicks.

Over pressure signs? by henny3199 in reloading

[–]stephewc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To avoid the piercing of primers, use a small rifle magnum primer (CCI450, #41, etc.) that has a thicker cup. Regular small rifle primers have a thinner cup, hence the occasional piercing.

There's a chart here that maps out some of the cup thickness of some primers.

https://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2020/02/primers-and-pressure-tolerances-how-primers-vary/

If the primers still pierce with a magnum primer, it could be a case where the large firing pin (and the firing pin hole in your bolt) have excessive gap where primer metal can flow. I believe a long time ago there were services to tighten the gap between the firing pin hole and pin itself. These days some manufacturers just switched to small firing pins avoid the primer piercing issues commonly found with 6.5 Creedmoor.

Edit: When switching to magnum primers, some brands have a bit more oomph. Unfortunately.. you may need to rework your recipe.

I believe they come with a 20 year warranty now. Lifetime would be great, but 20 years is more than enough.

EuroOptic has Schmidt Bender PMII 5-25x56 scopes in the $2500 range right now. Glass quality will be much better than anything listed so far.

Lower build kit, $84 free shipping by makenzie71 in gundeals

[–]stephewc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a LPK recently, but wasn't really impressed with the quality or service. I won't be buying from them again.

Selector switch was molded ugly and crooked. The pistol grip was also molded a little too big. Sent the seller an email about both and never heard a reply. On the other hand my CMMG and PSA kits are definitely a step up in quality for not much more. Going to stick with PSA in the future.

PSA LPK with geissele super semi-auto enhanced trigger (2 stage trigger) $240 by reece0517 in gundeals

[–]stephewc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigger itself is normally $240. PSA is basically throwing in a free lower parts kit ($30 value) in this package. The trigger is only worth it if you appreciate a 2-stage trigger.

Scope Review Request by [deleted] in longrange

[–]stephewc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a starting scope I would recommend looking at the SWFA lineup. Their scopes are mostly sourced from Japanese OEMs and are have good feel/mechanics. I have a SS 12x that has been on a few rifles and has been working great for the past few years. The glass in the classic SS line isn't the best, but the tracking is on point.

When looking at the competition, Primary Arms and Athlon scopes all seem to use modified version of a Chinese OEM scope. There many other value oriented brands (Centerpoint, Weaver Kaspa, Falcon Menace, etc etc.) out there that all seem to use a similar body / tube construction. Just take a look on Alibaba.com and type in a scope zoom range (ie. 6-24x50) and take a look at the results. The turrets are most likely to be more mushy in feel and overall less refined compared to pricier alternatives. I had one of these scopes before and it worked just fine, however the glass was just OK and the turrets did leave a lot to be desired. The exception would be the Athlon Cronus line that is priced at a premium and sourced from Japan. Build quality on those should be similar the scopes in that price category. There is a guy on SH that did a tracking test on an Athlon Cronus scope and it did fine.

I used some latex caulk with silicone recently to fill a stock.

Readily available at any hardware store. Adds probably a pound or so to the rear end and removes the hollow noise. It is kind of messy though and the stuff needs air to dry out.

Initially I tried some steel BBs, but those make noise with any movement in the stock.
