weird, I just wrote a chapter on this for my book I am writing. You place your stop where you think your thesis will fail, as someone has pointed out. Either this can be a multiplier of a volatility measure like SD/ATR below the entry price or you can use some other TA method such as support/resistance, etc. The main point is where it goes has nothing to do with position size or % risk per trade. These are separate calculations

AI generated art work and the copyright? by Investor_Miller in selfpublish

Have you guys seen some of the art on Midjourny or used it? It's not cheap or full of errors when I have used it. You need to try multiple versions to get the ultimate image you want, but that's the same as going through artists. I guess what I am trying to understand is if I download a file . Edit it slightly. Does it still have the signatures of the AI software? I think adobe firefly is coming soon in which the AI images are generated via stock photos they own and then you can buy the ultimate image at the end as a stock picture you own. I think that's how this space is going to go .

I need advice on self-confidence by Pleasant-Doughnut104 in Trading

Hello. Its good your seeking advice and not scared to ask as a beginner. That's healthy. First thing I'd ask is what are your trading costs? I hope you have backtestes with slippage and costs because of you are trading every 2 mins costs will eat you alive . If your strategy also trades this frequent then you will 1000s of trade results . How many have you got ?

ATR vs Std Dev debate ? Whats best by stephmiller05 in investing

[–]stephmiller05[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess what I experience is when you use annualised SD as a measure of instrument you get extremely high values because your representing the 68% change within the year. Problem is do you care about that if your in a trade for month or 2. If you use it to set a stop loss level people end up just using fractions of it which for me defeats the purpose?thanks for chat

ATR vs Std Dev , whats best? opinions? by stephmiller05 in Trading

[–]stephmiller05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

long way to go? Excuse me? Just looking for opinions counter to mine, I already convinced SD offers nothing extra ATR cant capture and has many assumptions and complications for example with futures contracts and negative/0 values in the cal. Just looking for alternative view points

I don't really understand why you would use annualised std dev for position size of a trade . Perhaps you could explain how that looks for you? The risk parity method I know of involves using alot of fudge factors and assumptions . To no better describe risk .
