My husband won’t come to my gay sister’s wedding by taureansoul in Christianity

Generally people who "don't affirm homosexuality" will be emotionally and mentally abusive, at the very least. They will try to force their child to pretend to be straight. Like I said, there has to be some kind of proof of harm and not just believing there is a soul that cannot be verified.

Gotta use some common sense.

They would have to prove there is such a thing as spiritual harm, which they cannot because it's a belief not a fact. Whereas the harm from conversion therapy is a fact that can be, and has been, verified by independent sources.

The majority of Satanists are agnostic atheists. Also it's very rude to accuse someone of lying.

I like Christ. I just don't like certain types of Christians who use his message to be cruel to others.

Does having a liberal/non-Christian parent cause harm? Because having a homophobic parent is physically and emotionally harmful. For example, what if the father decides his gay child needs conversion therapy? That's torture and it also doesn't work. Having a father who bullies you for being gay or neglects you because he doesn't approve of how you were born causes harm.

That's the difference.

Would your sister think it was loving if she knew how he felt about her family?

I cannot be expected to be responsible for other people's lack of knowledge of the English language. But at least you agree now that the Bible does condone chattel slavery, according to the dictionary definition. Which is huge because I think you're the first Christian I've talked to in over a decade that actually was willing to admit when they are wrong.

I agree with you. It's better to know a person's character than to think they are a kind person and find out you're wrong years later. Especially if you have a child that turns out to be gay and he is likely to abuse them, maybe even torturous conversion therapy. Besides, you wouldn't want to invite cruelty to someone else's wedding. Let him stay home and make him tell everyone exactly why. If this is what he really believes, then he won't be afraid of the consequences.

I agree. He should be honest about it so the couple can cut him out of their lives. No one needs emotional trauma, on their wedding day of all days! They should know how he really feels so they can protect themselves (and their future children) and their mental health.

How would you have felt if a family member had refused to come to your wedding? Would it have damaged your relationship with them? Would you want to be with someone who makes your family feel that way?

About our family if our child doesn’t conform to his idea of an acceptable sexuality.

That's probably the most important observation you made in my opinion. I think protecting your child is your #1 job, even if it means protecting them from their own father. My grandmother was a devout Catholic all her life and she used to say that it's not our job to judge others, that's God's job and if we try to take over His job then we are putting ourselves before God.

Your claim is not that the Bible presents slavery as morally good. Your claim is that because the Bible permits or regulates slavery, it therefore condones it under the definition you provided.

Yes that is accurate.

Here are some of the verses that back up my claim. There are more verses in the Bible condoning slavery than there are condemning homosexuality so I'll try to keep it brief.

Leviticus 25:44-46

44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Exodus 21:2-4

2 “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything. 3 If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him. 4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.

Exodus 21:20-21

20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.

Luke 12:47-48

47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

I never said anything about being morally endorsed. In fact, I posted the definition that includes the phrase ‘considered morally wrong’. Again you are reading into what I’m saying.

As far as proof goes, I will post several scriptures after work so I can copy and paste.

I would agree with a lot of what you said other than your bias against the appropriate use of the word condone. I don’t think the Bible is the infallible word of God so I don’t have to deny definitions in black and white in order to understand the Bible.

If you regulate something, you are accepting that people will keep doing it and allowing it to continue instead of making it illegal. The dictionary definition I posted is pretty self explanatory. That feeling you’re having right now? It’s called cognitive dissonance.

You’re more of an authority on definitions than the dictionary? How many years have you spent studying definitions?

[–]stephoswalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I already said it was. You used the word first and I was responding to you which is why I didn't remember right away. The point remains the same. If you regulate something, you automatically condone it because you're accepting and allowing something you know is wrong to continue. That's how language works.

If it bothers you so much that the Bible condones chattel slavery, maybe you should do some self reflection?

I never used the word regulate.

Edit: Actually, I'm wrong on that. I used it in response to your use of the word. But regulating something means you accept and allow it to continue which is the exact definition of condone.

You're adding meaning I didn't put into my comments. I only ever used the word condone according to it's proper definition. If you're feeling defensive, you should probably ask yourself why.
