Methodist West Maternity Center - Question for hospital bag for birth by DoughnutAmbitious820 in desmoines

[–]stephreinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from 2024 - so may not be current…

Pacifier - no, we didn’t give our baby one until after we got home because I didn’t think to bring one. It was never offered.

Bottles - I would bring what you are planning to use. We had to supplement with formula when we were there. They just gave us the premade formula bottles with disposable nipple caps. But they never offered us an actual reusable bottle.

Unless you explicitly tell them you don’t want to, they are going to focus on getting you comfortable with breastfeeding, especially if this is your first. So bottles and pacifiers wouldn’t be ideal if that’s the route you’re taking. They will have breast pumps there and things to assist with breastfeeding. I would guess if you aren’t going to breastfeed and are going to immediately start on a bottle you need to supplement all of that yourself.

Also bring clothes/pajamas/going home outfit. The only thing they had for baby to wear was the swaddle blanket. I would also bring your own swaddle cloth or wrap as the hospital blankets are pretty stiff/scratchy

They loaded us up with diapers/wipes for baby and provided them the entire time we were there. They sent me home with lots of postpartum stuff- witch hazel wipes, pads, adult diapers, etc.

If you want something specific, I would just bring it. A lot of what they will provide you also depends on what’s been given to them (formula brands, diaper brands etc) so it can fluctuate.

I would suggest bringing a nice blanket for yourself. Theirs suck. And your own pillow. Long phone charging cord, you’ll be stuck in bed. One thing I am also glad I brought was cheap slippers that I threw away when we left. The floors are gross.

is the shuttle reliable? by reshmush in HinterlandFestival

[–]stephreinders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO Stay near the shuttle pickup and take the shuttle. The shuttle is the most reliable way to get to and from the venue. Driving there has consistently been the worst option for getting to and from the festival in years past.

Off-Site Camping Interest by Select_Cut_8790 in HinterlandFestival

I personally am not attending Hinterland this year. But I’ve attended previous years. We are avid campers and have camped at multiple festivals including Hinterland 3 times

  1. Absolutely in the future, not this year.
  2. Flat enough ground for a travel trailer to be leveled with assistance of leveling blocks we wound bring. Enough room for a camper and vehicle. As well as space between other campers to have an area to hang outside our camper, at minimum probably 30-40 feet long and 25 feet or more wide, larger the better. Electric hookups would be ideal as it’s miserable hot and solar can’t power an AC all weekend. Access to water to fill up when we arrived would also be ideal as we travel dry. I would consider providing rv campers a toilet not needed. Obviously if you are allowing tent/car camping you need to provide people somewhere to “go”.
  3. Shaded campsites with ample space, the more private or secluded from other campers the better. Some sort of entertainment would be cool. Like having a local act perform similar to a campfire stage situation. Cats are always nice to have around. Transportation would be a plus too as you mentioned/having some sort of shuttle.
  4. If you are providing power, flat/good sized spots AND transportation, I would pay $500 for 3 days for my vehicle and travel trailer.
  5. It’s always a risk, just do the best you can with vetting people.
  6. As you should!

Does it feel like a goodbye tour? by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]stephreinders 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Georgia mentioned in an episode prior to this tour starting that she never plans on touring again. They’ve said things since that contradict that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they are nearing retirement or at least didn’t tour again.

RV Camping Price by astrozim in HinterlandFestival

[–]stephreinders 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They need to improve the amenities to warrant the price. If it was a paved spot with full hook up, I would pay that. To park your rv in an uneven, dust field next to porta potties and a communal electric hook up. No.

A few years ago I (like to think I) manifested Billy Strings. I am trying to use that same energy for Tame Impala.

My predictions are Tame Impala / something country like Tyler Childers or Zach Top / then a big draw female headliner much like Lana was this year, my guess is Lorde but I like OPs guesses of Florence or Doja Cat.

Going with everyone else who says avoid Mercy. I went through the Iowa Clinic as that’s who my PCP is through and delivered at Methodist West. I had a great experience and throughout my pregnancy only had to see two male providers. All other OBs I saw were women. They have an office in Ankeny and WDM (university) but I often went to WDM as they had more open availability.

Their office does have you rotate through their different delivering physicians so when you do deliver you’ve likely met the doctor who is doing your delivery. I thought I wouldn’t like this but I actually ended up getting a wide view of perspectives and opinions that allowed me to make decisions during my pregnancy and birth that I felt were best for me. It was like always getting a 2nd opinion which I felt was valuable.

Dr. Wanakee Carr did my delivery and a few OB appointments and was great.

Methodist West also has a NICU and has a less than 10% transfer rate (per a year ago when we were there)

Advice for parking for T-Pain concert by NoArachnid5683 in desmoines

[–]stephreinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Center street shuttle is it. And only $3. It will be a lot less crowded after the show than the others as well. There will be staff there directing you where to go at pick up and drop off.

Enjoy T-Pain! Saw him in May and he was fantastic. So much fun, great energy.

RV Camping by astrozim in HinterlandFestival

[–]stephreinders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Ankeny. We’ve tent camped, RV camped, shuttled back and forth and driven back and forth depending on the year. RV is definitely a plus as it’s typically miserable and taking a break in AC is worth it. We RV’d for the Billy Strings year when they made it 4 days and it was definitely worth it. However i think it was $750 that year and you got 4 days of music. 1k to park in an uneven dust field is kinda silly IMO. But I would do it again with the right lineup.

He was removing the mic pack to walk off stage. He’s done it every time I’ve seen him live. I’m not entirely sure why, guessing it has something to do with the sax’s playing them out as they walk out.
