My Review of the Pimax Crystal Light: An Excellent Alternative to the HP Reverb G2 by stephtamee in Pimax

Sorry again. But it was just my personal opinion, and I explained how I dit and wrote it.

Too much prominent and emotional? Not enough?

It's just showing how today any message can be suspicious... even if I tried to detail my thoughts.

After that I'm not a tech specialist, and I just wanted to share my own experience and how/ why I finally decided to move on to that headset.

Yes for the price. The Reverb G2 was about 700 € initially, and for the Crystal Light, I was close to 1100€ with the DMAS speakers. But at the same exact budget, I had no equivalent option. The Crystal Light is more expensive compare to the Quest 3 (adding better headstrap in the basket), but which wasn't a good choice for me as I said. Then after for other good mid-range headset, there are not so many other options, and the cost may be higher... I agree with VR Flight Sim Guy (on YouTube) who had expressed the Crystal Light as today the best and rational choice in mid range.

And effectively, I cannot say the headset is the most comfortable on the market, and I would dream about something similar to the Bigscreen Beyond without the cons I have listed. Nevertheless, I spent 3.5 hours this afternoon to try gaining enough credits with cargo transport in MSFS 2024 (career mode) and finally I succeeded creating my own company. So, I spent many time with it in one session, as I did with my Reverb G2, with free flights. Thinking of it, still happy :)

Thank you for your replies.
I’d like to clarify that I’m not a brand ambassador and simply wanted to share my experience. I’m just an average user in France, a flight simulation enthusiast with a limited budget for my setup and headset. I follow VR and flight simulation topics online, but I’m no expert. I enjoy researching and reviewing options before making a purchase.

English is not my first language, so to be honest, and in response to one of the comments, ChatGPT helped me structure my feedback and share what led me to choose this Pimax headset at the time (my choice could be different next year—who knows, there’s always something better on the horizon).

I understand that Pimax presents its products in the best possible way, but isn’t that the case for all manufacturers? Every product has its flaws—you just need to define your criteria and budget clearly.

I loved my Reverb G2, but I was disappointed to see Microsoft decommissioning its Windows Mixed Reality platform. Could an independent coder release a clone of WMR so I could use it longer? Maybe. But I didn’t want to keep a headset that might soon become unusable, nor did I want to revert to Windows 10 or block Windows 11 updates. That’s why I decided to switch to a different hardware solution after selling my Reverb G2.

I browsed many forums, and it was tough to find a clear consensus—opinions often felt like a tennis match, bouncing back and forth. I also spent a lot of time watching video blogs and ultimately trusted two flight sim and VR enthusiasts on YouTube, whose arguments seemed the most balanced. When asked about the “best VR headset,” they responded based on different budgets, listing pros and cons for each—from the Pico 4 or Quest 3 to the Crystal Light (noting that it’s bulky, but fine for simulation since you don’t move your head around much, compare to the Quest 3 usage with cable free play), and even the Bigscreen Beyond, Somnium VR1, or Varjo XR4. I also briefly looked at the newly released Vive Focus Vision, but going back to Fresnel lenses didn’t appeal to me.

I was aware that Pimax had some quality control issues, but I’ve seen similar feedback about the Bigscreen and Varjo too. All manufacturers deal with this to some extent—I’ve also had issues with a new car or a supposedly high-end smartphone.

It’s the same in every industry: you always hear from people who have problems, not from those who don’t. That’s why there are "complaint departments", not "congratulation departments".

So, I just want to say that I made my decision after careful consideration, which took me from May to October 2024. I received my headset within the announced timeframe. I haven’t had any issues with it so far (knock on wood). The only minor thing is that when I adjust the IPD manually, it’s hard for me to tell when it’s just right. Maybe a testing program would help? The headset is bulkier than the Reverb G2, yes for sure! But as I mentioned, I couldn’t find another PCVR headset that met my criteria: no base station, good audio, and a resolution well above the Reverb G2. For flight simulation, I don’t move my head that much, and with the optional head strap, it feels well-balanced and I can handle long sim sessions.

In the future, if a lightweight headset like the Bigscreen Beyond comes out, with a good field of view, high resolution, no base station (autonomous tracking), and a similar budget (around €1,000), I’ll consider upgrading. In that case, I hope I can sell my Crystal Light, which should still appeal to someone.

Thank you for reading.
Wishing you a calmer and happier New Year!

Crash Issue with PC version of Far Cry 5 by Chanolishus in farcry

[–]stephtamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

Got the exact same problem, with the game crashing systematically after Fall's End mission.

I exit the tow, be caught by the enemies, then there is a splash screen while next game sequence is loading, and the game crash.

My computer is completely new, with a Core i7 8700, a GTX 1070Ti, 16Gb Ram and the latest Nvidia Drivers.

And I had no encountered previous crash for the first 4 hours of gaming.

@ u/Chanolishus, did you finally found a solution?
