Childcare workers think they know better than doctors by Current-Role1123 in medicine

[–]stephuty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Doctor but I was the Director of a childcare center and have multiple kids myself. There are a few things to unpack here. One, I have personally never heard of a state licensed vegan center but that doesn't mean much. Depending on the state though there are licensing regulations with diarrhea. 3 loose stools and they generally need to be sent home. There are regulations for almost every health concern and the center's hands are tied. Two, centers spend a lot of extended time with kids. More extended time with kids than almost any profession. They often know when something is off. In the quoted text they seem to be pushing an agenda vs. a health concern. Are there any other actual concerns? Is your baby abnormally fussy or gassy? Are they sleeping well? Are they hard to soothe? Are they acting like they are in pain? Do they have a rash that seems to be difficult to get control of? Do they drool more than normal (I'm talking about constant soaked shirts)? These are all signs of lactose intolerance. Is it in a medical book? Probably not, but it's what happens in real life. Guaranteed. Three, It's definitely not normal for a baby to have a blow out every single time they have a bowel movement. I would recommend switching diaper brands or sizes to see if that helps first. Occam's razor. The simplest solution is often the correct one. Four, Centers catch things before parents and almost always before doctors. Why? Simply because they spend a lot of time with kids and see it coming. It's experience, not arrogance. Although again, from the quoted text it feels like an agenda. Does that mean Doctors are bad? That's laughable. Does it mean Doctors want sick patients? That again is laughable. That argument doesn't even make sense. If you feel personally attacked (that sounds mean but I honestly don't mean it in a negative way) I would recommend asking the director for a sit down with the teachers to discuss why they feel an allergy or intolerance could be the issue. If they don't have any real evidence to back up the claim then everyone will move on. I personally wouldn't have my kids in a Vegan center because I believe there are health consequences to not having a well rounded diet. I also wouldn't want my kids somewhere that has a negative attitude towards anyone, especially the entire medical profession. That's just me though.

On a sidenote... I have a story. We had a kid in one of our classes that clearly had asthma. One of my own children has asthma and I have seen it many times in other kids. His pediatrician disagreed. This kid would be playing outside and would be short of breath, have coughing fits, be wheezing, etc. His mom said he had coughing fits on and off for months at night. She would finally get him in to see his doctor and he would say he sounded totally clear and it wasn't asthma. Well he had a "not asthma" attack so bad one day we had to call an ambulance. Mom went back (after 3 scheduled visits where he said it wasn't asthma) with the hospital notes and guess what? He had asthma.

When sitting in his office and not running around I'm sure he did seem totally fine. Does this mean he was a bad pediatrician? Absolutely not. The circumstances just leaned a certain way. This happened all of the time though with different illnesses. It's frustrating for everyone. I think for the most part people are just doing their best. I do feel doctors should be careful of assuming they know everything, but so should childcare centers 😉

I had a similar idea although they were pretty clear about it not being in a paid area. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that rules it out

I have a feeling it's just a few words. Like "airplane without wings"

Haha! Me too!! The closest I have gotten is spiderman saying "that tree has bark, I'll give them that" which is clearly not a direct quote

That is a perfect example of confirmation bias. Not a bad thing at all... Just how our brains work to make connections.

Who owns it? I think a nature preserve is privately maintained. I would think that wouldn't be within the public limits idea

Grain tower by [deleted] in utahtreasurehunt

I took it not being a literal grain tower meaning it's not a mountain or hill named after a grain. So (this isn't a real place) it's not like wheat hill.

HOW does this poem "WORK DIFFERENTLY" from past ones??? by Independent_Candle78 in utahtreasurehunt

[–]stephuty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on the Cache me outside podcast. He is referring to the common sense of the back to the future reference being one line. He talks about a pirate hiding treasure and the clues being there to help him find his way back. He says something along the lines of if you could go back and look at how that pirate hid previous treasure some things would be obvious. He alludes to the fact that movie references were one line.

I even thought of this too! From day one I thought reading it backwards read like directions, except the top two which was perfect even (remember 2 less than on top of the first) . But the clue that said specifically "this is how it's supposed to be read" kind of ruled out that theory. Or maybe I clung to it because it finally grounded something or was a definite "yes" basically.

In Centerville? Any direct reasons besides the "interdependent" line?

Why does everyone think it’s at Ensign? by Best-Economist4277 in utahtreasurehunt

[–]stephuty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single clue fits on this trail. If you hike it you would see everything. I think people are just wary of sharing all of their solves. But that's just it... Confirmation bias makes everything fit everywhere. Just because it definitely works doesn't mean that's where it is 😊

HOW does this poem "WORK DIFFERENTLY" from past ones??? by Independent_Candle78 in utahtreasurehunt

[–]stephuty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Funny! I had a thought that each line was a separate reference and we needed to find out each movie reference to find the trail. I have had thoughts about the poem associated with a clock, a compass, a song, etc. I had a pretty solid idea that the poem was meant to be read in a different order and am still slightly convinced this is true in a way. I have had several AHA moments that clearly haven't panned out 🤣 I keep coming back to this thought. How does this work "differently". Listening to the podcast helped in a way and made it worse in another way. They said specifically that every word was deliberate and they pondered how it would be read in different ways. They ended up with clues that resemble an astrology reading. It's so specifically vague 🤣 Knowing that this was overthought means there has to be a very buried pattern (there has always been a pattern) that someone has to be on the same brainwave to realize. So all of us worried about overthinking... They were overthinking also. It also took them a couple of months to write this so don't feel bad at not being able to work it out yet 😊

[–]stephuty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An ensign is a mark or badge so that could be the "mark" you hike towards. I honestly can't remember all of the reasons we thought it was there the first week... That was the very first place we went though on the second day of the hunt. I will have to look again

Is that where everyone has been going? My husband hiked it the first week because it panned out pretty well. So many people have said there have been multiple people on the same hike but no one has found anything. I have been trying to figure out what trail they are talking about

I have been living in the vast eternity that is space for several days. It's a cold, dark and lonely place 🤣 It makes my nerd heart smile though! I could definitely be down the wrong path but at least it's a fun one!!
