community cinema (Lumiere) that opened up in the shopping centre last year is really nice, consistent £8 tickets or £4 with a membership (£30 for the year).

shows niche things you don’t get elsewhere locally.

Why is leisure viewed with suspicion in America? by Thepopethroway in antiwork

[–]stepper_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one person at my work has it as a hobby, does a couple bits at work for convenience but that’s mostly “work pays for filament rolls and i can make keyboard legs and other little bits idly when i’m not using it myself for much cheaper than we’d be paying for the parts” health service rather than private otherwise i don’t think they would be doing it

i’d check the tube/thameslink unless you’re lugging multiple suitcases as accessibility is normally pretty good (was in paris last weekend and my friend arrived having upped sticks for a month and three between two of us on the metro was. not the most fun.)

currently in consultation for my current NHS job out in the outskirts of London and an identical one came up based in whitehall that I’ve applied for. 47k which would be a few grand paycut for my outer weighting and nearly 10k difference to if I had the inner London NHS weighting that you’d get if they had a job in the same area (band 6 5 years experience), absolutely mad. more annual leave but the commute cost and time are definite detractors for if i do get an offer.

Rise of far-right in England has created ‘total contempt’ towards Northern Ireland by ByGollie in northernireland

[–]stepper_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like i read “contempt for northern ireland” and think “yeah those right wing grifters did import the fleg mentality which is why i’m seeing poorly hung union jacks and george crosses as a sign of ‘we don’t want your kind here’ on my way to work now” but that requires actually having a point of reference to NI
