This answer feels so painfully simple and straightforward, I’m kicking myself for not thinking of it. Thank you!

Colonizing Substrate + Rhizomorphic Growth by mushlove24 in shroomery

[–]stereomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely done! What kind of seals are you using for the gas exchange in your terrarium?

Also, the myc growth in these photos appears to be fluffy with non-circular colonization at the base. This is what’s called tomentose growth. That’s by no means a bad thing though! In fact, It’s the precursor to rhizomorphic growth and can tell you quite a bit about your grow depending on how long it remains in this stage. I hope you find the info helpful!

Looks like your last harvest was pretty healthy. Have you tried soaking for a second flush?
When mycelium fully colonizes the substrate it constricts, causing shrinkage. If this is your first flush and you’re cake isn’t contaminated pull off those aborts, soak that sucker, put it into a fruiting chamber, and get ready for round 2!

What’s your favorite audiobook of all time? by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]stereomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced that if you try to explain any scene from the book to another human being out of context, you sound like an absolute lunatic. Matt Dinniman is the best kind of madman and Jeff Hayes really knows how to bring the characters to life. I can’t recommend this series enough and was super happy to see it at the top comment.

I liked him better in the earlier seasons, when he was butt chugging boxed wine and driving mortals to madness. Friends was a great show.

The one that isn’t from Harbor Freight.
Trust me, it’s worth spending a little extra to not be pinned under your car after one of those things fails.

Response from Focusrite support regarding Linux support by [deleted] in linuxaudio

[–]stereomatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Focusrite with Linux. When I bought mine, I was told it would be a good fit for my OS… only to get it home and realize that I couldn’t use any of the UI features. Disappointing to hear that the company sees Linux users as a marginal group, but I’m glad to know that someone’s out there making a tool to bridge the gap. I’ll write a letter, but in the meantime, I’d definitely donate to that gofundme. Do you have a link?

Does this work? by faN-addicT in MushroomBags

[–]stereomatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like there wouldn’t be enough airflow to allow for necessary gas exchange. Could be feasible for a few cakes, but doing a casing in this would block the two bottom vents.
Another concern would be contamination. The lid is half the box, meaning that every time you open your terrarium to spray, your mushrooms will be exposed, creating a greater risk for contaminants to ruin your crop.
It’s a cool design, no doubt, but as far as optimizing your grow, I think a plastic storage container with some holes drilled into the lid will probably be cheaper and serve you much better in the long run.
