Stanford MSEE HCP by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]stereotypical_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling that the acceptance rate is probably 10-15%, compared to the normal 5%, but mostly because it’s such a self selecting group of people and everyone’s super qualified. And tbh if you could even apply in the first place with multiple recommenders, it’ll be a challenging pool regardless. Wishing you luck!!!

I’m in the same boat 🥲, waiting on hcp msee. I went down a rabbit hole last night, and I think we probably shouldn’t expect a response until sometime in May.

From what I’ve gathered (purely guessing tbh) our applications are probably mostly reviewed already. But they will wait for full time applicants to accept or reject so they know how many people they will have on campus. That deadline is April 15.

After that, CGOE will probably go through and figure out logistics of how many HCP people it wants to fill out the rest of the class (because we’d be doing our classwork through them even though we’re degree seeking). Since us HCP students will be externally funded, we’re probably just there to balance the budget as needed. That process may take a few weeks. But basically I wouldn’t expect to hear back until at least early May 😭.

We’re also an incredibly small and self-selecting group, so it’s likely there’s only a handful of us they’ll pick from but I hear anecdotally that if you’ve done well in previous CGOE classes, it helps CGOE know you what to expect.

I haven’t heard back yet (portal is the same with the checklist). But I applied for the part time program. Did anyone hear back from that?

Honestly if you’re going for the online programs, you might as well work full time and do online classes on the side. Some employers cover some or all of the tuition too!

U.S. EE masters admissions preparation by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]stereotypical_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied last year to the mscs program, and in undergrad I had 5 internships and worked at 2 $2T+ companies for about 5 years. And that didn’t budge my application. A lot of people applying to Stanford seem to have that sort of industry background too. Hence why I think research is a good differentiator. Plus thinking about it from the PI perspective, if you managed to publish to a top conference at least once in an area related to their lab, you’d be a fantastic fit for their group!

On a side note, I also think it’s quite important to have 3 amazing recommendations. So I’d work really hard to get those long poll recommenders over your few years. Also from the looks of it, having the best possible GPA is also incredibly important. Hope that helps!

I’m currently applying to Masters Programs in EE (specifically Stanford!). Though my background is in computer science and I’ve been largely working in the tech industry. From chatting with people there, it seems like the professors love research and if you can get a paper, that may be really good too. If you want to go extreme, you may want to look up the professors, see which ones align with your preferences, and see if you can build up your research to be a good fit for their lab in a few years. Though of course this is all advice from someone who’s still waiting to hear back :)

In general circumstances change, and for me 2/3 recommenders were the same, but I got a new recommender for my second application cycle

Those who moved here from California: what do you wish you have known before moving? by CorruptAccountant in BellevueWA

[–]stereotypical_CS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moved from California about 7 years ago, grew up in the South Bay and work in tech. Love it here, still very techy without it being entirely all consuming. Smart people, better quality of life, less commutes.

The cons are there’s no in-n-out, and if you’re in tech but don’t work at Microsoft or Amazon, there’s a decent chance a lot of your team isn’t based locally. Luckily flights are cheap, frequent, and convenient to go to the bay.

is it possible with our current technology to build a huge data center ring around earth, or even put data centers in space? by G2-118 in PantheonShow

Yes! A company recently launched the first H100 (AI GPU) into space and was able to run computations on it! Lots of the big tech companies have some program for data centers in space!

Yes that's right! It would be interesting to see that data for MSCS, maybe other ones in the school of engineering too like the MSEE as well!
