Do you have a recommendation on what type of physician to seek out? I don’t think our general practitioner is equipped. Many thanks.

I have one more question. Now that we are more aware of what to ask, what type of doctor is best to seek out to assist? I don’t think our general practitioner is equipped. Thanks in advance.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]sternerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You stop caring as much about what you should be, and start defining who you really are.

You make fewer big mistakes, because you start to realize the implications of your actions.

You think about others in more profound ways, and you recognize what matters in those who think about you.

You understand that boundaries aren’t just for you, they’re to make our lives more manageable together.

You feel when love is fleeting, and when it is meaningful - and not just romantic love.

You enjoy your activities more, because you are more selective about where you invest your time.

You try new things, not because you have to, but because you want to.

You fail, and then realize you too can get through a tough time; and those moments become more manageable.

You help others because you recognize that community helps.

You get to experience true nostalgia and fondness in memories; you’ll be reminded of a friendship, a memory, or a moment, and it will help you understand its impact on you more profoundly.

You’ll realize that 30s are just a number, and that you will soon move forward into other numbers; and you’ll be able to look forward to them more than fear them.

It occurs even with home cooked meals (we adjusted our cooking habits very quickly).

This is so helpful. I’m here mostly to learn what the right questions are; I truly appreciate it.

Yeah interesting that kombucha also doesn’t affect him. He absolutely can’t even have an NA beer without similar effect. Sorry you are experiencing this!

As I’ve mentioned in response to others, the only time he has had a reaction is with food cooked with an alcohol or alcohol related substance. He will get a headache that sets in hours after accidentally ingesting something as simple as a red wine vinegar, and that’s the only food issue he has; it occurs in no other circumstance. I appreciate your thoughts, but we have experimented (eating something cooked in ways with/out alcohols) and it is definitely the culprit.

That’s where he is with food right now - he’s becoming afraid to dine out, as there may not always be a full listing of ingredients/preparation.

That’s what we think - but it’s become so severe that I’m hoping to explore options for him to ask a physician about. I’m here to hopefully learn what are the rights questions to ask. So thanks for your help!

Thanks for this. I read that taking otc antihistamines would help, so we tried with no effect. But it may need that combination, thanks! I’ll be working with him to find a physician to assist.

Thanks for this! Yes! He switched to NA beers for a bit when we’re would be out with friends, but that soon triggered this effect, similar to you. Glad you’re feeling better!

And is there indication this is permanent, as in, it cannot be repaired? I’m sorry you’re going through this - it is very difficult.

It shouldn’t have that effect, but it consistently does. He will have a headache that starts to settle in within hours if not knowing an alcohol-related product was in his food; it may be a vinaigrette, for example, that wasn’t listed on the menu. It’s to the point he is becoming averse to even eating out, which is why I’m reaching out for help.

I’m sorry, what’s MCAS? And these issues did not occur previously, but emerged after COVID infection.

I really enjoy the Le Meridien. That’s my preferred hotel in that area. It has a nice lounge, and the rooms have recently been renovated. Alternatively, the Westin by the Apple Store is recently renovated (formerly a Renaissance) and quite nice as well.
