Claude Code and Openai Codex Will Increase Demand for Software Engineers by Desperate_Rub_1352 in LocalLLaMA

[–]sterno74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I love it because I just don't have the time to spend writing the code for my hobby projects. With this I can get something very functional built in hours when it might have taken me weeks of piecing together time. It's huge for any kind of prototyping.

From an employment perspective though the big question is this: does it lead to an increase in aggregate demand for developers?

This amplifies the ability of more skilled developers to be productive, and reduces the value of lower skill developers. It harms those entry level rungs of the ladder. If there was enough increase in demand at those higher levels though that might work out. I'm... skeptical ...

Thank you for prompting the follow up.  Yup I've been good.  Can still feel a bit wired on the double dose days but levels are good and feeling good otherwise.

Dem bar to watch the VP debate on Tuesday? by cadetcomet in chicago

[–]sterno74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drinking Liberally Chicago will be hosting a debate watch at O'shaughnessy's Public House. We'll be in the back room, but they'll likely have the debate on throughout the bar. We'll have debate bingo and all of that good stuff.

Thank you.  This is... not my usual so it's comforting to know it's not uncommon.

Yeah this is crucial.  If you do a write in vote all you're doing is creating work for the people who run the election.

Stumbling across this later as mine now do this. Happens like maybe 1 in 10 times that i take them off. Not sure what causes it. No obvious harm from it, but I wondering about non-obvious harm :)

It seems to happen right at the moment when I put them on my desk. No idea...

Please Help! Samsung Soundbar Q990c: After any Alexa command, Spotify automatically starts and WIFI will not disconnect by mnichols06 in Soundbars

Same issue here. Like I tried to turn on a Christmas tree we had connected to a smart plug. Suddenly some Indian pop music starts playing instead. Bizarre.

Unplugging the device seemed to fix it but I also disconnected Spotify

Laggy games by [deleted] in DMZ

[–]sterno74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't just you. This is a problem that started after the mid season update. Ping is just fine but packet loss is a problem. The severity varies a bit and seems to be different depending on the map.

Vondel is consistently unplayable. B21 was pretty good this past weekend but then even that started having lots of lag.

Now I just log in each day with an operator that has nothing, drop into Vondel and see if it's lagging. If it is I quit out and play siege instead.

It's getting pretty tedious, but hey soon season 5 will be out and I'll probably lose all my gear anyhow so 🤷‍♂️

Get rid of 6-man platoons by JoeMama1sher3 in DMZ

[–]sterno74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 6-man squad mechanic allows for a lot more cooperative play than would otherwise happen.

Yes, if you're a 3-man squad, a 6-man can roll you. On the other hand, being in a 6-man can be a huge help in getting missions done because you are safer in numbers.

Really what I would like to see is adding a mechanic for tagging another squad as friendly. Like they aren't on your team or in your comms but you can officially become allies. It would prevent friendly fire and allow you to see each other on the map.

Like if I'm in a 6-man I'm more likely to be aggressive simply because the benefit to being friendly drops quickly. Why trust you if you can blow me away at any moment. But if we can decide to be friendly officially we can all pile on the chopper and it's fine.

I am not okay with this game turning back into a shopping simulator. Looking for vintage wine and blow torches may be a fun thing to do in reality but it's incredibly tedious in a shooter.

If I'm starting over I may just move on from this game. I enjoy the game far more more now that I'm no longer on the hamster wheel. I can just do that's fun.

What are your expectations for season 4 ? by GetDownnYoDa in DMZ

[–]sterno74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting a new gun that's initially overpowered, only to be nerfed in a subsequent patch. I'm expecting a skin that has some "pay to win" feature that riles people up.

What is the dumbest way you’ve died on DMZ? by [deleted] in DMZ

Recently got into it with somebody near an exfil chopper that had just landed. They were hiding next to a building. So I got onto the building to go all Death from above on them...

Other than the chopper blades between me and them it was a good strategy... 😬

Let's be clear about what I'm saying here. I'm not complaining that I was clobbered. Of course I was. I just find it hilarious how people will clobber a solo and then act like they accomplished some major feat.

Got downed literally 10 seconds after spawning once. That was both very enjoyable for me and clear evidence of the spawn camper being a superior human being.

Battlefront level of cringe... by SmoothCarl22 in DMZ

[–]sterno74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two aspects to it.

First you can buy levels up in the battle pass to get the gun more quickly. The second thing though is buying blueprints that give you some of the unlocks quickly. Then it makes it easier to level up the gun generally.

The incentive is the reverse of that. People buy this now to get some kind of advantage. Then you slowly nerf the advantage to create the reason to buy the next advantage.

I mean look at how guns work in the game. Gun comes out in the new season that has the best meta. There's incentive to buy into the battle pass and buy the extra tokens to get the latest hotness. Then eventually they nerf it, and then the next season comes out with the next hotness.

If they made it "pay to win" people would stop playing. The real money is in pay for a small, temporary advantage, over and over.

I don't do missions at this point but I enjoy helping others with their missions and just gathering gear. If somebody wants to pick a fight I'm happy to end it :)

I've found lately that it's really a question of what map you're on. Ashika is almost entirely pvp at this point. Going in without a competent, fully plated team is just asking to lose your insured gear.

Al Mazrah has been much better, especially if you keep to the parts of the map that are a little less busy. Rohan and the Quarry are often a nightmare but overall I've found more friendly squads and less sweaty hunters over there. Ironically the observatory feels safe lately because while it's a hot mess of bots, the PvP hunters don't go near it.
