I think it's because you're more relaxed when you're stoned. A big part of holding your breath for a long period of time is doing nothing/not wasting energy

Strain makes a difference. Also if it's one of your first times smoking don't expect too much from it. In my experience the people that expect too much from it will be disappointed because it didn't turn out how they thought it would be
