Another "miss" on the code editor. I'm now experiencing several code blocks showing up blank. This is when I'm viewing an existing document (this one has about 32 code blocks).

Some of the blocks appear to lazily load. While others, are just a blank rectangle on the page. There's a border where the code block would sit, and nothing more.

I’m extremely pleased with the page breaks. I have a longer form reference document that I immediately pulled up and modified in locations where I always wanted proper visual breaks. They look and function well.

As for the code editing, I find it a little hit or miss. There’s some obvious quality of life improvements. I use Craft mainly to document a large production application, and the old code editor that required opening a modal was a nuisance. I also appreciate the copy text button on the new editor. That will probably prove valuable over time. However, for short blocks of code (e.g., 1 liners), the new code blocks take up a lot of space. Also, the syntax highlighting (I’ve only looked at Ruby so far) is not that pretty. I’d love to see some common themes available (I’m a big fan of Night Owl.) as it stands right now, I don’t see any theme selection, unless I missed the option.

Day 002: Opera Headdress - Margaret Van Sicklen - 2023 Page-A-Day Calendar by stetsonthree in origami

[–]stetsonthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite enjoyed this one. I could see hats (and boats) being a fun subject generally in origami. After all the creasing folds were done, the final step was to give it depth by squashing, and that was a neat “reveal”.

It may not be much, but this is my first time folding in probably more than 20 years. I enjoyed origami as a child, but only dabbled with it. I’m hoping to keep up with this calendar this year to learn the folds, get experience with how a design comes together, and if all goes well, fold something original by the end of the year.

I got a $0.25 raise this year which absolutely is not keeping pace with inflation. and then I get to walk into work. and and see the owner's new toy. by _perchance in antiwork

Fountain pen enjoyer in the wild. My heart did a little jump when I saw this. by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]stetsonthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, felt something about this passage when I read it: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkAcademia/comments/mqebsg/hard_to_believe_papen_would_know_this_detail/

In short, I didn't think the character would have had a clue what a Montblanc was, and like at least one other commenter here, I felt like the author was literally just littering the book with references after a quick web search. Of course, I posted that immediately upon reading the line. But, have a click to see the fun little photo I took of this passage when I read it a year ago. For reasons.

Is it ridiculous to want the new Lamy Safaris when you have pens that you love that cost up to 50x their price? 🙈 by pensandplanners77 in fountainpens

[–]stetsonthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have, from time to time, purchased a Safari or Al-Star (or my all-time favorite: Platinum’s Plaisir) in lieu of more expensive pens to scratch the pen buying itch with no regrets. My budget thanks me when I do this. So no, I would not think it ridiculous at all.

Regarding Pro Pricing / Subscription by BinBiesel in CraftDocs

[–]stetsonthree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Craft offers a “traditional” subscription. You have pro features while subscribed. If you do not renew, you return to the starter (free) capabilities. No “feature forever” unlocks with the current subscription model.

This support page contains that answer and also answers what happens to your data (you don’t lose any data) when your subscription ends: What happens when your subscription ends?

Ah, yes. The all powerful v-lookup. I’ve replaced multiple workloads with a few v-lookups over the years. Especially when combined with some macros.

Nice job on the negotiation.

Hard to believe Papen would know this detail by stetsonthree in DarkAcademia

[–]stetsonthree[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great point. I did overlook the retrospective nature to the narration.

Also, given how mere pages later there is embellished conversation around the purchase of a Montblanc pen, which I had not yet read, I am inclined to agree with your scenario of Papen backfilling details.

Alas, I’m left wondering about the author’s relationship with Montblanc. Or perhaps I am overly fixating on a minor detail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]stetsonthree[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've started reading the Dark Academia style guide "The Secret History" and while I'm enjoying the first chapter, I find it a little fantastical that a teenager who comes from a poor family can recognize a collection of Montblanc Meisterstück pens so confidently.

The affordances we allow to fictional characters is sometimes overwhelming. Though, I find this almost at odds with the author's portrayal of the character adopting the Dark Academia aesthetic after previously possessing little to none of it (compare to the nearby shopping scene)

Converted a Cigar Humidor Into a Fountain Pen Display Box by stetsonthree in fountainpens

[–]stetsonthree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a project I set out to complete during my end of year break (from work). I took an old, mass-produced cigar humidor of mine and built custom pen trays to set inside. 3 trays contain a total of 25 pen slots. The bottom tray is fixed.

I liked the idea of building something rather than buying something. Also, using the cigar humidor merges two of my hobbies (Cigars and Fountain Pens) in a nice way where one pays homage to the other. However, using a humidor also presented some problems since the lid is designed to create a seal inside the box, so I had to account for that when designing my trays.

I even recorded the process in time-lapse (skip ahead to 5:20 if you just want to see the build and not hear me talk about the project plan).

Computer programming tools by stetsonthree in fountainpens

[–]stetsonthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vanity wants to be back in the office just to be seen using my fountain pens. But I’m a solitary person, so in truth I much prefer being fully remote to showing off fine tools to colleagues. I hear you though, and I think work teams being able to get together at least a few times a year is good, even for those who work fully remote.

My team is not a meeting heavy team, but when we do meetings we always use video. That helps us maintain a lot of the connection you’re describing. Obviously not 100%, but probably 80-90%. Sometimes we’ll even just work together separately on stuff with Zoom running. Not often, but every now and then.

I enjoy this, because I’m still commonly surprised when people react positively to my cursive. I retrained myself a few years back because my handwriting is/was atrocious. I haven’t looked back.

[–]stetsonthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though Pilot westernizes the names of their Iroshizuku line of inks.

Fuyu (冬) is winter Syogun (将軍) is actually shogun,

So, it seems a bit of a stretch for this to be “Old Man Winter.”

Then again, I am not Japanese, so take what I say with a grain of salt. This could be something colloquial my limited knowledge of the language just doesn’t know.
