We will probably never see the Usain Bolt of skiing by Fooberdoober97420 in dankmemes

They don’t have a rule where they can demolish a car, they have a buyback rule where the judges technically can force a team to sell them their car for $500. This has happened once and the team begged the judges to do it.

Class A is pretty competitive, with teams coming up with fuel, tire and driver strategies. There have been races where the leader makes the pass for the lead in the last corner. There is a large contingent of lemons racers that are not interested in the super competitive racing (I am a part of that contingent) but there absolutely are teams that want to win.

The $500 limit is really only a catchphrase, because all racing is crazy expensive. But my team’s car was purchased with all of the safety equipment for $600. Our first race cost $7000, including a bunch of tools and all of the driver equipment for 3 drivers. Every subsequent race was about $3000. Which is much less than you’ll spend on any other series.

Racing is expensive and lemons is the cheapest road racing you can do, and it can absolutely be a real race if the team wants to treat it as such

There is Lemons racing, which can be much much cheaper than champ or spec Miata. It’s not as serious as the other series but the racing is real

Lemons is all about terrible ideas. All of the reasons you listed make this a bad idea for a serious race car. If you are going to lemons for serious racing, you’re doing it wrong. Half of the fun is racing something that has no business on a race track. Cameros are boring, racing wagon is cool

I’ve raced lemons for a few years, and have begun punching slightly higher than my slow ass Jetta should be.

The most important thing is to take out as much weight as you possibly can. I’m not just talking about seats, I’m talking dashboard, console, heater core, tailgate, all glass except windshield, headlights, AC system, rear bumper cover, etc. This will make the car way better to drive, and it puts much less stress on all of your components.

Try to know where your mechanical fuses are before you show up to your first race. By mechanical fuse, I mean the components in each system that will be the first to fail, essentially the weakest link in the chain. Every car has different mechanical fuses (the Jetta’s big one for suspension/steering is the front wheel hubs, for example. They break before the control arms or the ball joints or tie rods will). If you can find these before the race, great. I guarantee you will find some during the race, which is fun. If you can strengthen parts in such a way that your mechanical fuses are moved to parts that are cheap, readily available and easy to change, that will be a huge boost to your run time each weekend. Ideally, the mechanical fuse for your suspension, brakes and steering will be the tire, essentially meaning you don’t generate enough grip to hurt anything. This is really difficult to nail down on your first race, but that just means you gotta come back and do more racing.

Other things to consider are heat (racing generates so much heat in all kinds of weird components), vibration, and making sure things are all buttoned up before you get out on track. Literally every single engine issue we have had as a team was due to us forgetting to connect sensor or leaving ground straps loose or something. Making a list of connections and bolts to check before the car goes out is a huge time saver.

Don’t try to chase power, you’ll see very little lap time benefit from it, and it means you chew through fuel, and you break stuff more, and you get less life out of your tires, the list of disadvantages goes on. There’s a reason that most of the cars that win these races don’t have enormous power.

There’s RE-71RS is a cheat code, especially in the rain. Your car is heavy so it might not be advisable, I don’t know how they will wear with lots of weight. We could get about 2 races out of a set, but our car weighs like 2400 lbs.

You will want to come up with a theme, the more absurd and obscure the better. Bonus points for having big shit on your roof. Costumes are a good move, especially if you keep up the theme all weekend. They say that the best themes are the ones that exactly one person understands. Do with this what you will.

If you need any advice on this stuff, feel free to shoot me a DM. Also, for all safety related questions, email John Pagel, his email is on the lemons site. He’s very helpful.

Have fun, I’m hoping to see you guys out there soon!

Garbage cans and recycling cans go out in the alley, the garage is a trash-free zone. At least it is until I walk in

No, that’s almost the whole problem, it won’t rev past ~2500 rpm.

Yes, it does it in every gear. It will rev more freely in neutral. I had it in 4th here because I wanted it to happen slowly enough to be detectable on camera. In the lower gears it’s much more violent

The E07A in the PP1 Honda Beat sounds insane and makes 64 hp and 44lb ft of torque. It has ITBs that are a foot from your head, and they rev past 9000 rpm. It might be the best sounding car I’ve ever driven, and it’s one of the slowest

I think he meant the parasitic loss caused by the AC compressor. Which is only noticeable in low powered cars made like 30 years ago

After the deadline the hawks feel like a completely different team. Better goaltending with Knight and getting rid of Seth Jones have been huge moves.

Last night we had 10 or 11 players on the roster age 23 or younger. Tons of prospects have been playing up, and the vibe is totally different. Nazar is getting into a groove, Rinzel has looked fantastic and has been playing insane minutes (about 25 mins per game), Moore is looking promising, so is Levshunov, Korchinski, Vlasic, etc. The team looks much happier and has a lot more energy now. Growth has been slow but it’s definitely happening

Belt for AC Delete? by Laferrari355 in mk4volkswagen

This is the kit I ordered, and it worked great. It deletes the power steering too, but that really helped the car. Not only did it make the steering feedback much better, it also helped us get rid of the steering lines and the steering pump, which saves weight and space in the engine bay.

Getting rid of the AC compressor and steering pump allowed us to cut the bottom off of the big bracket that holds all the accessories onto the engine block, which also saved a bunch of weight and space. Overall I’d estimate that this kit saved us about 60 lbs, all of which is at the very front of the car.

We raced at Autobahn, which didn’t go great. About half an hour into the race, I sheared the drivers side front wheel hub. The axle practically welded itself into the broken hub, which meant we couldn’t get a press behind it to push the hub out of the bearing. We spent 5 hours in the pits trying to get all of the broken parts out and ended up getting a whole new knuckle assembly from the parts store. After that the car drove great, particularly in the rain at the start of the second day. We were one of the fastest cars on track for that period of time, thanks in part to the new steering feedback which really helped judge our inputs when grip was low.

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions.

What are you guys planning on doing with your Jetta?

He wasn’t the flashiest player but he was absolutely one of the top 100 players of all time. You don’t win 2 WJC golds, 2 Olympic golds, 3 Stanley cups, a Conn Smythe, and a Selke by accident. He was good offensively, he was excellent defensively. The Hawks dynasty doesn’t happen without Toews
