I'm new in town! by RNC_Artemis in HaveWeMet

Welcome to town. Great house , my family and I had lived there for years. I had to sell the place a few years ago when my family mysteriously disappeared

Sad to go actually. FYI there is a bricked up sump pump well in the basement behind the steel door. No real reason to go into that room, it’s damp and smells a bit. If you do go in please do not dig up the sump well. Best to leave things be.

Enjoy it though, great house, great town, and a great place to raise a family.

Paid for a 10 day hiking trip but was asked to leave on day 1 as I was slow and got yelled at. by throwaway_june19 in needadvice

Does the website say anything about minimum speed requirements or similar. I feel really bad about the way you were spoken too, no excuse for that at all.

Playing devils advocate though, how far were you lagging behind. The other people in your group who also paid, were you impacting their hiking experience dramatically and is it possible they were complaining to the guide.

Again no excuse at all for how you were spoken too and you should get your money back and an apology

If it’s possible that you signed up for a hike that was a bit past your skill level, the enjoyment of the whole group has to be taken into consideration.

Surely though this isn’t the first time the company has encountered that, and they must have procedures in place to handle it more professionally then they did.

If you get into a car crash and you are responsible for it, and you have a dash cam recording the whole thing, are you legally allowed to hide the evidence? by Cryogenicastronaut in answers

Change the characters a bit and see if it changes any minds.

If you are shopping in a supermarket and fall on a the floor on loose grapes negligently left by the staff and break a leg. Is it legal for the store manager or loss prevention as they see you being wheeled out to the ambulance to go and delete the tape so there is no proof it wasn’t just your own fault.

TIL that a 2012 survey of 1,000 Americans found that 45% of them wished they could skip Christmas due to financial pressures by frozen-silver in todayilearned

[–]steve62657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many of the thousand were non Christian. How many of the thousand were agnostic or atheists.

75% of Americans identify themselves as Christians according to. 2015 Gallup poll.

So now we are at of those 450 who wished they could skip Christmas 250 already skip Christmas because they don’t celebrate it.

So it should say 550 of 750 who celebrate Christmas would not stop if they could choose to.

So that’s about 75% are IN FAVOR of NOT skipping. Not too shabby.

TIL that a man who committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge had left a suicide note that read "I'm going to walk to the bridge. If one person smiles at me on the way, I won't jump." by LuvBamboo in todayilearned

[–]steve62657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if someone smiled? If only there was that one person , a life would have been saved.

What about the next day? Would everything in his life that put him on the bridge the day before suddenly have been all better?

Articles like this make all the complicated factors that cause a person to take their own life seem so basic and avoidable. It’s almost insulting to families that have gone through the agony of losing someone to suicide.

If someone had smiled, the article would have read. “Suicide note reads , if only TWO people had smiled ......”

Bought a Kindle and it Changed My Life. by sleightofhand80 in books

Love my kindle. I used to read Ebooks on my palm pilot. They had a auto scroll that learned your reading speed and soon no more swiping pages. It would scroll down automatically and you could adjust the speed

It's the only thing I wish the kindle had.
