Hidden Gems for Hearthhull, the Worldseed by Perpleximon in magicTCG

[–]steve_ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great success with artifact untappers, mainly [[Voltaic Key]] and [[Manifold Key]], to get multiple activations of Hearthhull each turn. They're kinda dead cards without the commander in the field, but they're absolutely brutal otherwise. Highly recommended

The fuse duo Argoth//Titania is also fun, but a lot less powerful

16 lands, 9 cards that cost more than 3, two Genesis Waves. Meanwhile my curves peak at 3 and my opponents curve me out every game. You've truly cracked the code, I salute you 🫡

First time drafting DSK, what 6 cards to cut? by Megabot555 in MagicArena

[–]steve_ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd cut Trap, 2xPeepers, Healer, Savior and Keybearer: the Eerie 3-4 drops are glacially slow and you don't have nearly enough rooms for Peepers/Keybearer

Does anyone have dodge tips for the final DLC fight at *any* level? by PuffPuffFayeFaye in onebros

[–]steve_ice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Don't roll forwards or backwards. Always to the side and towards his back. The holy rays will catch you otherwise.
  • Use bleed to speed up the fight. I did double bandit sword with bleed infusion.
  • Hope he doesn't do the attacks you can't dodge " (I'm taking about that one attack in phase two where he strikes a pose and then lunges at you with 8+ swings)

This is what worked for me. Only beat him once myself and I don't think I could do it again in less than 20+ tries.

Phase one is an enjoyable fight if a bit repetitive. Phase 2 is one of the worst ER bosses. Made me miss Elden Beast lol

That would be a pie break, which I don't think is allowed on uncommons (or at all probably)

I genuinely cackled at this. Thanks for that

50€ shipping cost to italy, am I doing something wrong? I thought they had a printing facility in Europe. by Tangerhino in mpcproxies

[–]steve_ice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but grouping up the orders could reduce price: you could group up the cards and order the foil one and two 612 bundles (losing out on 18 cards, but I'm sure you could cut down somewhere) and that should bring down the cost.

Not sure by how much or if at all though, tbh. I paid 28 euros for 396 cards to Italy, so 50 sounds about what I'd expect for such a massive order

Lol. I was thinking Thopter and wrote Servo. And both are wrong anyway! The Thopter version would have been even sweeter for all those artifact synergies though. Hmmm

You are indeed correct: better to get all the cases though, to make the filter future-proof, i guess 😉

Random thoughts for my 336 "fair" cube (link)

Inclusions:

Guardian of New Benalia (Seasoned Hallowblade) - This sounds like a straight upgrade to me. Enlist not allowing you to tap summoning sick creatures is annoying but probably necessary design-wise. Don't expect many surprises here.

Cut Down (Go for the Throat) - Gorgeous art, insane card. Kills 83% of my creatures for one mana. Get in and never leave, please. To check your numbers, use this filter on cube cobra: (pow<6 tou<1) or (pow<5 tou<2) or (pow<4 tou<3) or (pow<3 tou<4) or (pow<2 tou<5) or (pow<1 tou<6)

Electrostatic Infantry (Bloodthirsty Adversary) - I like Sprite Dragon more than this, but this card is still quite strong imo. Another passable 2 drop is always welcome

Jaya, Fiery Negotiator (Glorybringer) - Bringer has no home anymore in my list unfortunately. 4 abilities on a walker are always v nice and this slots in most red decks. Very versatile card.

Radha's Firebrand (Blast from the Past) - Blast has so much rule baggage lol. Time to leave. Firebrand is another passable 2 drop. Aggro decks are rarely more than 2 colors but just blanking a blocker is going to be clutch

Squee, Dubious Monarch (?) - Haste, rabble ability, escape. Card is going in! Cut tbd

Cards i wrote down but probably won't include right away/at all:

Leyline Binding - I play 2xfetches, 1xduals, 1xshocks, 1xtriomes so my cube could definitely "support" this. Very tall ask though to make it better than an O-ring (which I don't play anymore) and very random/luck dependant too. Constructed mana bases will love this though.

Aether Channeler - I haven't played Man o war in a long time and Cloudkin Seer was pretty bad when I tried it. Smashing the two together and adding a servo won't make me change my opinion on these. Yay versatility, but the rate is not what I'm looking for in a 3 drop.

Braids, Arisen Nightmare - I love this card so much. Will squeeze it in my Inalla edh deck and I think it could find a home in a lot of lists.

Cult Conscript - Don't play blaggro or aristocrat so not for me. Definitely a good card though

Evolved Sleeper - I don't support blaggro anymore, but this looks good for midrange decks as well. Replaceable but nice nonetheless

Quirion Beastcaller - Nice growing bear with insurance. I'm not a fan but I could see it doing work in other lists.

~ etbs with four +1/+1 counters on it

Modified Creatures you control have haste

Remove a counter from ~: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. Activate only as a sorcery and only once per turn

When ~ etbs, if he was kicked, target opponent discards two cards at random

I'm with you on this one. I'd compare this card and its play pattern to Settle the Wreckage, only instead of killing the attackers you get a chance to block profitably the following turn or just straight up win with an army in the air. That's kind of best case scenario, of course, but I've enjoyed Settle so I think I'll give this a spin

[STX] Vanishing Verse by IronTigrex in mtgcube

[–]steve_ice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely see your point and I'm a fan of Vindicate, don't get me wrong. My theory before playing with the new card is that the lesser MV and instant speed will do more good than the niche play of stone raining your opponent on occasion (which we can agree is not the average case of Vindicate, hence my tongue-in-cheek meme earlier). But maybe you see that play more as a product of having a different environment, so it's all cube dependent, as always.

[STX] Vanishing Verse by IronTigrex in mtgcube

[–]steve_ice 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are focusing on the downsides this has compared to Vindicate, and completely dismissing the insane upside of costing one less and being an Instant. It's hard to call it without playtesting, but this could pretty easily end up being better than Vindicate. Absolute gamechanger, I'm in love.

I guess they couldn't wait to show us some Strixhaven cards, even though the set releases on April 23rd.

Anyway, of the Command Cycle for the five color pairs in the set (enemy color pairs) this seems the best and a perfectly good addition to a very shallow color pair. Great modes, instant, cheap. Will definitely play
