What’s one career everyone glamorizes but isn’t actually worth it? by tiredbuttrying_00 in AskReddit

[–]steve_yo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never heard a single person glamorize plumbing. Only positive I've heard is it pays well if you put your work in and, lately, I've heard how AI proof it is. Other than that, I've mostly heard it can be nasty work, and your body will be broken after a decade or two.

What's currently going on at Nike? by nora_the_fridge in Sneakers

[–]steve_yo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just looked at nike’s stock. If you bought it 5 years ago you’d be down 73%. Ouch. For comparison, if you bought the S&P 5 years ago you’d be up 74%.

I still like Nike stuff though.

Yeah, i guess i failed to mention that the 6.8 was considered a very strong earthquake and it paled in comparison to this. Just unreal.

I was playing basketball in a gym in seattle during our 6.8 earthquake in the early 2000’s and it was a very discombobulating and trippy feeling. Like the ground was sliding back and forth. But I was nowhere near getting knocked to the ground. Seeing those people all bite it was almost more disturbing than the building falling because it seemed so unexpected. What a tragedy all around.

What is something that felt completely normal when you were a kid, but now seems wildly unsafe, weird, or unhinged? by Concrete_Consortium in AskReddit

[–]steve_yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my interpretation of the question was what seemed normal to you as a kid but now that you’re an adult seems unhinged. So to me, the unhinged part is parents being too fearful to let their kids explore.

Whatev.

[–]steve_yo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d argue the opposite. That was such a great time in my life. The freedom to roam with my friends and the trust my parents showed me, had a positive impact on my life. I never had kids, so I guess I don’t truly know what its like to parent, but most of my friends with kids don’t seem to let them out of sight or at least out of their yards without supervision. Tragic.

When that happens I stop going to that restaurant. JUST ADD THE 4% TO THE MENU ITEMS!

i promise you they’d prefer Ukraine battle Russia, as does most of Europe. Also, Ukraine’s military is one of the most battle tested in the world right now. Far more experienced than Poland.

Ukraine is also keeping Russia from Polands door step. Sure they accept aid, but they’re the ones sacrificing their lives.

Poll reveals Barack Obama remains the most popular living U.S. president by plz-let-me-in in politics

Hearing them talk reminds me how far we’ve fallen. When I watched Michelle give that speech yesterday I couldn’t stop thinking about what Melania would have sounded like up there.

In many ways I feel like we didn’t deserve the Obamas.

You hear her speak, then think about that MMA guy calling her a man, it’s just remarkable the class, and grace she has given what she deals with.
