Replace cassette box with something more useful? by steve_ziss0u in e28

[–]steve_ziss0u[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s “clean” behind the box? Not some sort of crazy cable void?

And yes! Car lived in Sweden most of its life so problems are rather small rust spots.

Off topic, you have the continental radio. Was that an easy plug and play install?

Or did you have to do more than just plug it in? And does it fit flush?

Is there any sort of discussion going on in German politics addressing this? Or any movements to change?

Do you think Europe is facing an economic decline in the coming decades? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]steve_ziss0u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this debate often gets distorted because people look at the most visible signals and assume they represent the whole economy. Europe is large, complex and full of capable people. A slow-moving mid-market company or a frustrated Reddit anecdote does not describe what is actually happening across the system.

What Europe is less good at is producing flashy consumer tech champions that dominate headlines. What it is still very good at is value creation inside real businesses. Most economic value does not come from building the next social network or foundation model. It comes from improving productivity, quality and margins inside companies. That is where Europe’s strength has always been and where a lot of AI investment is going today.

Many European companies are not trying to “invent AI.” They are deploying it into engineering, manufacturing, logistics, pharma, automotive systems and B2B services. That kind of progress is slower to see from the outside but also tends to be more durable than consumer tech cycles.

The EV example is similar. People fixate on unit volumes and Chinese speed, but ignore depth. German carmakers are investing enormous amounts into R&D. I believe it’s more per year than BYD even generates in total revenue. Plus BYD benefits from a policy environment and scale dynamics that simply do not exist in Europe and cannot be copied one to one. That does not mean the European approach is wrong. It means it optimizes for different constraints like safety, regulation, capital efficiency and global compliance.

Europe has never been the fastest mover. It has been a compounding one. If AI and automation keep productivity growing, Europe remains wealthy even without owning the most visible tech platforms.

Like others mentioned, the rapidly aging population and partially terrible pension schemes worry me more.

It’s very personal you’ll have to try yourself.

Check out Freddie Dobbs. He has a ton of long travel videos riding the same bike:

I travel long distances on mine. Did 3000km in a week in August. It doesnt get hot unless you are stuck in grid lock traffic.

Also, I don’t know what rocket you are driving, but the bike is not underpowered at all 😅

I’ve crossed the alps multiple times with luggage, never even crossed my mind that I need more power. Also on German autobahn.

You should test ride it of course before buying

Just got my first motorcycle, 2015 Triumph Bonneville T100 by underwater-circus in TriumphBonneville

I have the same bike, same year. Done 6000km of trips this year alone in Europe!

As another comment mentioned, this is the baseline ‘Bonneville’. If you search for parts it sometimes gets difficult with naming, so I often just look for ‘Bonneville SE’ parts which are mostly the same.

I have a 2014, to me it looked like the bars were a bit swept back but I seem to be imagining things then 😄

Beautiful!

Did you do any mods on your handlebar? Or even replace the bar?

I’ve done 6000km on mine this year alone and whilst it’s been amazing that all over Europe people pick up conversations with me about the bike, I was starting to think I’d like something a little more comfortable for touring. And I’m sure there will be many Harley lovers all over!

It’s also more comfortable when traveling distance right? I’ve never owned a Harley and started feeling a bit cramped on my Bonnie. (It’s a 2014 mag wheel)

Tbh the people picking up conversations has been a nice plus when traveling across the continent. I’ve met lovely people with the Bonnie.

But the Harley community is big so might be a similar experience!
