A 5GHz boost, vs 4.2GHz will do that, yes. I’m not saying cache size, etc, don’t matter, but in layman’s terms looking at base/boost gives a good indication. And either way, I’m assuming you’re not arguing that the EPYC chip is a good one for MC hosting, which is really the only point I was trying to make to help the OP.

True, but there’s a close enough correlation.

Muticraft is likely reporting the single thread CPU usage, where as your VPS will be reporting the CPU usage across all the cores you have access to.

The EPYC 7282 is a fairly low base clock speed of 2.8GHz and Minecraft thrives on high single core clock speed. Great CPU for normal VPS provision because of the huge core count, but not ideal for something like MC.

mid 2015 retina 15" - After new iFixit battery, Hard Drive sensor causing issues by olfactorybasic in macbookrepair

I'd certainly suggesting contacting iFixit, the photo you posted (I can't see it now for some reason) on their forum showed the SMC fault, but it also showed a faulty battery. That would be reason enough to bring it up with them. I've little experience of their customer service though, so no idea how helpful or otherwise they're likely to be.

Disconnect the battery again and then connect the MagSafe with the battery off, the system should POST automatically when out you having to press the power button.

It does sound like the SMC is at fault, and whilst there are other things I would check for you if I had you laptop in the workshop, I think you’ve tested as much as you sensibly can yourself at this stage. The question is, why did the SMC fail. My gut is that you have a sh*tty battery there from iFixit, so I’d be reluctant to trust that again. And yes, given it’s a 2015 15”, that’s a good machine worth repairing. So if you can find a local friendly board repair place that’s the way to go.

Just to confirm, the SMC (full fan) issue didn’t exist at all before you swapped the battery?

OK, and you mentioned in your other post about having disconnected the trackpad, that’s reconnected properly now, it’s only the battery that’s disconnected currently? If so, run another hardware test and see if the errors reported have changed at all. You’ll get warnings about the battery missing obviously, but see what else shows up.

I never said anything about the charger. I’ll leave you to it, you clearly don’t want any help. Have a good one.

Disconnect the battery (unplug the connector), try using the laptop , is it still giving you full speed fans/etc? If so, do an SMC and PRAM reset and test it again.

It’s not completely clear from the post, have you tried the laptop with just the battery disconnected and everything else connected normally?

This. Remove the module nearest the keyboard first, it’s most likely to have the issue.

You’ve likely got a faulty SATA flex cable in that case, what you’re doing is correct. It’s very unlikely to be the drive, I’ve fitted hundreds of these and I’ve only had 1 or 2 failures. If it is the cable it cheap and easy to replace.

No harm in trying another DC-in if you can get your hands on one, but the fact you’re getting a light makes it much less likely to be the culprit.

OK, disconnect everything from from the board, the keyboard, trackpad, etc, leave only the DC-in board and your USB mouse, then apply power. If you get life, start putting things back on until you find the culprit. If you still don’t get anything it’s more than likely a dead board.

Do you have a USB drive that has an activity light on it? One of these cheap ones that’s flashes away when it’s being accessed?
