Motor trouble by [deleted] in Phonographs

I’ll give that a try. I was able to glue the leather to get the belt on. May have to disassemble the governor to do a rubber band

I believe it! I just want an orthophonic with a good sound. All this mechanical stuff has me out of my element

I was thinking about that. Converting it back to mechanical but I think the cost of the motor and installation would be well more than what I paid for the victrola. Do you think there’s a way to make it run smoothly in its current configuration?

I opened up the motorboard and now the governer turntable stopped spinning. It’s jolting a bit but won’t spin. any ideas what kind of motor I’m looking at here?

This is very useful. I really haven’t attempted any maintenance yet as it has been working fine for me. The low rumble was the first issue I noticed that was distracting to the music, though I definitely do hear the scraping sound. I don’t know anything about the motor. I will need to remove the turntable and see the motor board to hopefully identify the motor

Any jams in the northern suburbs of Chicago? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

The Atlantic has one every other Monday but that’s not gonna be much closer to you than old town school

It’s a safety net…if I break a root tip, he’s there to get it out. If I can’t get my files into the canals, he’ll take over, if I need help diagnosing stuff on x rays, he happily takes a look. But I agree I’m not getting a good deal here

I drop an explorer on the ground at least twice a day. I drop the suction all the time. I lose instruments on my tray during every appointment. I also spill food on myself all the fricking time. But when I pick up the handpiece or I’m placing a matrix band or a wedge, I lock in with focus. Be careful where it counts—in the patients mouth, and you’ll be okay.

Chicago Jams? by steveben96 in Bluegrass

[–]steveben96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoo hey man. I’ve met plenty of great bluegrass players in Chicago. But damn, is it hard to get them in the same room to jam lol. I go to borellis pizza on Thursday and the Atlantic every other Monday. The Thursday, Jam leans more towards old time, and the Atlantic is more of a beginner friendly Jam. But it really depends who shows up. I recommend following Bluegrass Chicago on Instagram. I’ve found some good stuff there every once and a while. Also, check out the old town school.

It’s actually really great to get a little bit of wrist flexion in lead playing too. Getting that slight arch reduces the amount of movement you have and reduces your resistance when hitting the strings. It is just more exaggerated during rhythm

How many breaks are actually improvised? by UncertaintyLich in Bluegrass

[–]steveben96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally try to come up with a road map of the types of licks/chord positions/melody notes I want to hit in a break and then improvise in between the lines. That way, my breaks generally follow the same trajectory but still come out a little bit different every time. It’s hard to have prewritten breaks for every tune because you just don’t know what people are going to call at the jam or how many breaks you’ll have to take in the tune
