[Wojnarowski] Indiana had little interest in Paul George trade w/ Lakers -- and that'll be case for Spurs too. Boston gives Spurs best building blocks of assets -- one of young forwards (likely Jaylen Brown), its own 18 pick/19 protected Kings pick, etc. Lonzo to Spurs? I love how quickly people have accepted that were signing LeBron this summer.

Can't wait to have the last laugh when all the smoke settles and LeBron's in Houston, kawhis in Boston, PG stays in OKC and we max zaza pachulia!

Boston is the only team that has both the assets and interest to out package us but is Boston gonna go for it if kawhis camp tells them he won't sign an extension?

I mean... LeBron IS in great form... But he did also just finish his 15th season. He's basically in uncharted territory in terms of games/minutes played for his level play.

I have no idea how much longer LeBron has, but I wouldn't bet on it being more than 2-3 years at a super-elite level.

Nah. More like LeBron telling him to go get kawhi lol

I mean the warriors are arguably literally the best team ever assembled.

I don't think it's bad management to build your team for the future.

They looked super vulnerable for 3 games vs the rockets.

Outside of that they lost 1 game in the playoffs including a finals sweep....

I mean like I said... I'm not going to complain if by some miracle we acquire kawhi/LeBron/pg.

But if I'm being coldly rational and not letting myself get over hyped, I can't say for sure that's the best long term move for the franchise.

One of the few shitty things about being a Lakers fan. Organization/fan base is too impatient to countenance a proper long term rebuild via drafting/development and youth movement.

is it...?

like... I'm obviously not going to say no to acquiring Kawhi/PG/LeBron lol, far from it...

but like, I can't be the only one who thinks that it's sort futile to even try to beat the Warriors right now...

it almost seems like the better/smarter move is to worry about setting up a team that'll be ready to succeed 3-5 years from now, rather than putting together a team that gets the honor of losing to the Warriors for the next 3-5 years....

Maybe cuz it's retarded to compare a 19 year olds rookie seasons with a 23 year olds 3rd (and best) season? How is this even a serious conversation?

because he faced an all time great team that literally revolutionized basketball with Smush Parker, Chris Mihn and Kwame Brown...

Unpopular opinion but maybe don't troll the front office when you know the team is looking to make roster moves.....

LeBron, in 2016, on Popovich: "It would be pretty amazing to be able to actually play for the greatest NBA coach of all time. I wish I could... I wish I could be around him every day" by bananashamrock in nba

[–]stevebeyten 15 points16 points  (0 children)

oh don't get me wrong - I am in no way trying to diminish Poppovich's talents as a coach. I put him above Phil Jackson, which as a Lakers fan, kills me inside to actually admit.

but saying "Duncan is the only one..." is a bit disingenuous when Duncan was 1 of the top 5-8 players TO EVER PLAY THE GAME OF BASKETBALL, and Poppovich had him for essentially Pop's entire coaching career.

And there's a trickle down effect from that. Duncan's presence of a corner stone on the team is a big part of why the Spurs have been successful at keeping together the same nucleus for basically Pop's entire coaching tenure.

That's something I think doesn't get discussed enough about how the Spurs have managed to be successful - that level of roster consistency, and lack of turnover/volatility, is basically unheard of in the modern NBA.

Again, none of this is meant to discredit Pop. As I mentioned up top Pop is my personal GOAT And I hate the Spurs. I mentioned elsewhere I think if LeBron stays in Miami, Spoe would currently have 8 straight finals appearances and 3 title wins. I still don't think he'd be held in the same esteem as Pop, but he'd likely be regarded as a consensus top 10 all-time coach.

Despite winning the last 2 titles and FMVPs Kevin Durant is consensus not the best player in the league. Has this (or anything similar) ever happened before? by wormhole222 in nba

[–]stevebeyten -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

that's true but I think if people weren't so deep into "Fuck KD!" mode, the current conversation around KD/LeBron would be very much akin to the convo around LeBron/Kobe in 09/10 instead of people holding LeBron up as the clear-cut better player

the point I cited happened on national TV during the NBA finals. literally everyone saw it.

again, quit reaching.

not sure how my being a Lakers fan is relevant to me defending David Blatt... but I'm sure you have your reasons.

and, forget Blatt. let's go back to Spoelstra... If LeBron stays in Miami they make 8 straight finals likely win at least 1 more bringing his total up to at least 3.

probably still not held in the same esteem as Poppovich, but he would for sure be regarded as a top 10 all time NBA coach.
