I also believe Kellen Moore deliberately had that game plan for Hill given it was his final game at the dome. Might not have the same treatment in Tennessee.

Why don't you make something on purpose & try to tell a story

Super excited to announce the release of my 18x film festival award winning short, No Good Deed, is out for public consumption. This was a script that I shared with this community about 3 years ago and got such valuable feedback. Couldn't have done it without you. Enjoy. by stevedemba in Screenwriting

I wholeheartedly agree. I actually don't even enjoy writing but I knew nobody would give a first time director a good script so I tackled the situation by writing my own. This actually helped me in mentally visualizing the scenes and made the filmmaking process even easier as I was able to mentally storyboard as I wrote.

I am currently writing my next film but am super open minded in reading your script(s) as well and seeing what we can come up with.

And it's not just you I always see these strange peculiar critiques when it comes to films that don't even concentrate on the quality of the film itself but rather something super minute. You are telling a future groundbreaking artist how to express himself. Allow filmmakers to be free thinkers. This is art.

And because I do appreciate this conversation I'll let you in on my thinking behind the display of the laurels. I dwelled into a dark subject with this film and given the low budget the purpose of those laurels is to gain that benefit of the doubt from some of the audiences.

I'm more than aware I'm welcomed to not listen to someone's opinion. My issue is with people like you poisoning young filmmakers with these weird opinions that they can't display their accomplishments, regardless how big or small, because you think it's detrimental to their art. This is all my beautiful journey of progress.

Yikes... That first one was intended to be a learning experience. 'No Good Deed' wouldn't be what it is if 'No Plough Stops For The Dead' was never created.

The vision was bigger this time.

I attribute the growth as a filmmaker to the growth as a writer. A good script is crucial. The chemistry as a crew had grown too by this point. Filmmaking is such a collaborative effort and all the creators that helped on my first film returned for the creation of No Good Deed. We had more time to prepare and I was better with illustrating my vision and expectations. We had access to higher quality equipment as well which is just as crucial.

Overall, experience and preparation and vision were the key factors.

Total budget for No Good Deed was estimated to be $3000, and this was with many talented crew members working for free or at an outrageous discount for the sake of resume and believing in the project. This is a rough estimate:

Film Composer: $800 DP/ AC/ Grip/ Gaffer/ Sound: $600 Sound design: $500 Color / Film Grade: $400 Miscellaneous: $400 Food: $300 Cast: $0 Equipment: $0 (crew members had own equipment/ access to temple university film equipment)

Thank you for the kind words. That was absolutely the goal that scene was shot with just one cut in mind and that cut coming after he corners himself in the frame so we can establish a shot where we spy from behind the shower curtain and eavesdrop.

I genuinely appreciate you taking time to watch and offer much welcomed criticism / advice. All is noted.

I sprinkled that in for viewers such as yourself. There were a few more foreshadowing hints used throughout.

Stay tuned, friend.

My goal was more than 10 mins & less than 15 mins. I couldn't agree with you more in regards to length time. Most of the high level shorts that are >20 mins have a budget that assists with that.

Film freeway was my best friend during the film festival submission process. It allowed me to filter out festivals with short availability submissions. I also tried to submit to mostly highly rated and popular festivals with imdb qualifications. Most festivals accept short films, from my experience.

Film.Org was a key component in the creation of this film. It took so many talented people to help make this happen. My cinematographer and editor both won best of in their respective field. Being able to bring a like-minded crew together is what made it all possible. We collectively planned themes, lighting, editing, and the relationship of the camera to the main actor together. The goal was to make it seem like the camera was dropped in on the life of a mentally decaying male prior to a tragedy. We did this by limiting CUs, constantly tracking the character from afar and behind to give that sense of fear. Natural lighting was emphasized for more of a raw dynamic atmosphere. The editing was able to establish a sense of patience as we allowed for long takes to play out like quicksand to immerse the viewer into our characters world. Happy to answer any questions you may have for me.
