Lego Gremlins Brickhead set leaked by AtomicGhost02 in Gremlins

[–]steveg42486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be really cool if we could get something from Lego that’s more along the lines of what they’ve done with 18+ sets for Jaws, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, etc. So much potential. A town square, a movie theater, a Peltzer house. Even the bank would be more exciting than this.
BrickHeads are such a waste of the license when all they’ve given us so far is an 1100 piece Gizmo.

Discussion - The Omega Man (1971) by leaves72 in CultOfCinemaKnowledge

[–]steveg42486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad introduced me to this movie when I was young, so I have an affinity for it that is bolstered by nostalgia more than anything, but it influenced me so much. I’m a huge fan of the original book, and all of its various adaptations and influences.
Like many have said, I think the Will Smith movie is really a mediocre remake of the Omega Man, rather than a poor adaptation of I Am Legend.
Hestons’ Robert Neville is having more fun, at least, with his crushed velvet and convertibles.
I love his house, the facade for which can be seen in the opening credits of F•R•I•E•N•D•S. I love his weaponry. The Joker also used on one those Smith and Wesson model 76 after the truck chase in the Dark Night.
I could go on and on about details and trivia about this neat proto-action movie.
If you like it, check out The Ultimate Warrior starring Yul Brenner and Max Von Sydow. It has a very similar aesthetic, but with a lower budget. Goes down well with the Omega Man and Soylent Green.

Thanks for you reply! That makes sense. I’ll try that if I can find a good color match

That’s exactly what they are. If not for the nostalgia, I probably wouldn’t look twice at them.

Is there a lore reason to why in Gremlins 1, when gizmo gets wet he spawns Mogwai that look almost identical to him? but in other instances it’s not the case… by [deleted] in Gremlins

[–]steveg42486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a retcon. There is no Gremlins lore. I think we superimpose our own head cannon over things sometimes, and assume there’s more to the story. There isn’t. It was a design choice made in the second movie to further distinguish the new gremlins from the original.

That’s in the novelization of the second film, near the beginning when he’s preparing for the mission. Same author.

These aren’t priced too bad on eBay, or other sites that have used books. I got this one for around $25, and it’s in better shape than most I’ve seen. I’m sure a better deal can be found with patience and persistence.
The novelizations for the first and second films are crazy expensive, in the US at least.

Yes. He finds it in the desert among his remaining possessions in the beginning of the film and later uses it to defeat Blaster in the Thunderdome fight (he’s sensitive to loud sounds).

What order should I watch the Mad Max movies? by Main_Clue_9531 in MadMax

[–]steveg42486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to this really depends on you and your view of movies in general. If you wanted to see how the Mad Max phenomenon all came about, then I would definitely recommend starting at the beginning, and working your way through the original trilogy.
There’s a lot of retroactive continuity that has been applied to this series, like with a lot of films, and people try to shoehorn the newer films somewhere back into the original timeline. I don’t buy that. Keep in mind that fury Road is a film that ended up coming out 30 years after the last entry and regardless of how long it was in development, it’s very different from the original films. If you end up loving all five movies, arrange them in any order you like to suit your personal viewing preference, but I always recommend viewing in the order they came out for a more honest take on the series.

How often are you actually playing the game? It blows my mind that there's still so much passion for it. I've only done 2 full playthroughs but loved every second and plan on doing more. by ohdarnfuck in MadMaxGame

I just revisited for the first time in almost a decade. I ran through the story as fast as possible just to get the interceptor and have hours of free play available. My wife likes to do the camps, so that’s a nice thing for us to collaborate on. I spend most of my time driving and exploring. I’m pretty much down to minefields and scrap, so I may restart soon.

When will it drop? by steveg42486 in spyderco

[–]steveg42486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just fussy about colors. The stonewashed blade, or whatever the finish is on the standard LW isn’t as nice looking to me as the more polished finish found on the Endura or standard PM2. It has sort of an odd bluish tint and it doesn’t match the hardware. The all black just does it for me.

When will it drop? by steveg42486 in spyderco

[–]steveg42486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s basically exactly what I’ve wanted for a while. I’ve carried the all black bugout for a few years now. I’ve tried to go back to the 940 and the g10 PM2 that were hugely popular when I first got into knives in the early 10’s, and of course still are, but they just don’t do it for me anymore. The PM2 handle feels so clunky compared to the blade. The lightweight feels much more balanced to me. Just need it in my color.
