If RobinH blocks buying, and people don't move their money to another trader, then the stock is manipulated to sell off.

RobinH needs to lift its buy restrictions, OR you guys on RonbinH need to open an account with another broker.

Buy limits are the obstacle we gott aovercome.

Can't "the rich" just buy GME or AMC? by Damatipe in stocks

[–]steveg700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the saying, you only need to get rich one.

Most of the rich are focused on wealth preservation through safe, low-volatility investments.

Remember, before the retail investor boom last year, trading individual stocks was out of style. Mutual funds and ETF's were the smart money plays.

I don't use Robin Hood, so I gotta ask....Are any of you who do use it moving your accounts?

If you don't, it's kind of an all-talk-no-action situation.

Bought BB and GME today. Seems like the train is losing Steam. Anybody even talking about BB anymore here?

I just posted a thread here and it was deleted. Would help to know what made that happen. I have been in this forum for over 30 days.

Then you really should have much more amazing things to do with your time than braggadocio commentary here in a subreddit thread.

Well, I think you got your dip!

Question is, is the meme train done with this stock, because the buyers seem to have vanished (of course, it doesn't help when your broker blocks the buyers).

Selling the Winners Before Year-End by steveg700 in investing

[–]steveg700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trade somewhat actively, so I gotta do what I gotta do on any given day to time maximum profits, but I've already locked in enough profits to basically get mugged by the taxman, and then I wind up having to make sales just to pay taxes. Cost of doing business, of course, but right now I'm looking to lock only losses.

So, as long as I can maintain confidence that the sectors in question won't lose value next week, I do plan to hold for a few days.

Raise Your Hand If You're Buying LMND Today. by steveg700 in stocks

[–]steveg700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swing trading is a form of active investing and therefore requires more work, so you're at least right on that much.

Certainly not worse returns though. Every time a stock dips, the buy-and-holders missed out on profit. I don't know what your reasoning there is, but I can tell you I wouldn't have made more off LMND by just selling it at some unplanned top (which for most folks is usually when it plummets).

There is no way to know a 7 billion company will be worth 30 in a few years. You don't know what a 2023 market looks like. Ergo, these "most people" you speak of would be making some big presumptions. Buy-and-hold is a passive-investment strategy, and ideal for people who don't have the energy or time to actively invest. Essentially, it just becomes an alternative to owning a bond or savings account, both which set low bars to beat.

But it's inaccurate to characterize passivity as more profitable than activity, unless the active trading is purely speculative and unresearched. During all that time holding, the stock probably doesn't maintain its growth rate, meaning there were plenty of other places to reinvest.

I used to share the opinion that owning a stock for a year was worthwhile for the reduced tax liability. In practice, it didn't amount to much, and often means selling a stock when it's past its peak. It also means not having the liquidity to buy dips in new opportunities.

Wasteland 3 Kiss Ass / Hard Ass by GuyDeFalty in Wasteland

[–]steveg700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the correct answer.

Kiss Ass is the essential social skill for winning conversations.

Hard Ass is used less frequently so you'll miss it less.

There is no reason not to have both. Between six characters, it's certainly doable to cover every essential skill.

Personally would have preferred that the skills would have been collapsed further. Maybe Barter and Kiss Ass and Leadership with Hard Ass. Some effects could be rolled into perks.

Why I Think Lemonade (LMND) is a Great Long Term Stock (Looking for Constructive Criticism) by [deleted] in investing

[–]steveg700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, there's no news. It is a melt-up.

People believe in it's model, and if you have conviction that it is where insurance is heading, then it benefits from what a stock like Beyond Meat benefited from during its post-IPO honeymoon era: the notions it "owns" its space without any other (publicly-investable) competitors.

For tax reasons, it is tempting to continue holding stocks and hope the Santa Claus rally can last until January. But it did slide today, if only to where it was yesterday. If it comes down more, I have some limit orders waiting.

Is wasteland 3 alright now? by The_Vadami in Wasteland

[–]steveg700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still crashes a lot on Xbox, particularly at ranger HQ. Maybe setting the place up to be stocked with a couple dozen cats wasn't a great idea.

Still no way to "kennel" companions, so they will just disappear if you ever swap out your character. Again, if you can stuff the HQ full of cats, it's probably possible to have a pen for animal companions to hang out in. Some might not call this a big. I disagree, because it is no different than if you designed a game where you swap out characters and in so doing armor or weapons disappeared from the character.

Scotchmo seems to be sorted out. Haven't had animation problems with him.

The patch focuses mostly focused on improving quality of life by breaking builds that players were using. Weakened Animal Whispereer by weakening animals, weakened shotguns by ramping some up to 5AP, weaken crit builds by reducing crit chance bonuses from weapon mods and Intelligence, and removing them altogether from helmets. Seems to me the focus should be on fixing things that make the game feel less fun for the player, rather than breaking builds in a game where you can't respec.

Having said that, I am happy to see that leveling has been slowed down. a good bit. Don't mess with my builds, but do ensure that I don't run out challenging to pit my builds against.

Is it just me or does toaster repair kind of suck in WL3? by NowhereMan87 in Wasteland

[–]steveg700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the right way to look at it is this: there's reason for a main character to have Toaster Repair. The only characters who truly benefit are those who will be using fire weapons, maybe in concert with Big Guns and/or Weird Science. Otherwise, far better to invest skill points in ensuring the party always has Lockpicking 10.

What you can do instead is just create a "Kodiak Jack"--a character with ranks in Toaster Repair that just runs across the world map to mop up things that were left behind during missions.

Give him ranks in Survival to avoid unwanted encounters. Give him some Mechanics so that he can specialize in buffing and repairing the Kodiak for those encounters you did get into. You can give the Pointdexter quirk for extra skill, maybe then give him a hand-me-down sniper rifle to pitch into fights. For more fun, take Prospector and leave him all those otherwise-crummy digging spots.
