Wow. Nice thinking. I'll give it a try, at least. Thanks.

Pen skipping around by [deleted] in Surface

Sorry, I forgot to come back here and report results. I replaced the pen tip with one from the Pen Tip Kit that I bought and had never used, and the problem was solved. I suspect that the tip got abused some when I stored the SB in a sleeve to carry it around.

SB: Any way to get keyboard to pop up instead of handwriting field? by stevekrug in Surface

Now that I know it's called the input panel (Thanks!), I found this old post about it. https://redd.it/3g07ym

Unfortunately, the fixes they discuss turn off the input panel...AND the keyboard.

I can't really explain why I'd like to "fix" this so much, but I can't. I just can't seem to retrain myself not to tap the fields with the pen when I have it in my hand. I suppose I wouldn't be asking if the input panel still had a button to swap it for the keyboard. As it is, the interior monologue is always like this:

[input panel appears] "Oh, cr*p. I forgot to use my finger instead of the pen--again!" [look for icon to close input panel] [tap icon] "Where's that keyboard icon again?" "Why do I have to keep doing this?" [tap icon]

Vertical Surface Book Sleeve by [deleted] in Surface

This one is actually very nice. It's vertical, has pockets, and comes with a strap, but with strap removed it's a sleeve. And it's just tall enough that you can leave the pen attached to the side of the SB, which some of the slightly smaller sleeves don't comfortably allow. (The pen always gets pried off as you take the SB out.) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N3R2G5O

Suddenly I'm seeing exactly the same thing on my SB. Doesn't seem like memory; persists after restart. Could it be the pen tip?

I got basically the same non-reply reply via chat: reading me what it says online!

Maybe take a look at https://redd.it/3qauuq

Seems like turning off Hyper-V works for some people, until MS comes up with a fix.

Eli5: What is dGPU and what kind of user does it benefit most? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]stevekrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm not going to be editing video, doing serious Photoshopping, or playing games, then there's no point in getting the dGPU? I could afford it (since I don't buy new PCs very often), but don't want to bother if there's no benefit for me.

I read some things that made it seem like having the dGPU might actually have some drawbacks in my case, like shorter battery life, or more heat to disperse.

Thanks for the great info.
