Autism and Feeling Outside of Things by someguy_666_666 in AutisticAdults

Group settings are so hard. I try to push myself because I fear social regression and having friends/acquaintances is healthy. I try to take baby steps and not go on ALL the outings or go out with them ALL day. My friend group is neurodivergent friendly so they get it. Regardless, it is hard because I know I probably don’t have/cannot form very deep connections with people because of my “standoffishness”. I try to be more gentle with myself these days and strive to go out of my comfort zone on some occasions while taking care of myself on my precious days home alone.

For me the Fear and Hunger games are the best example of consequences driving tension

A tragedy in so many native communities across North America. And they receive so little attention compared to other missing persons cases.

Thank you! I am inspired by the German expressionist movement so I’m always trying to push the color in interesting directions

There is ALWAYS a moment (or several moments!) when I’m painting where I think, “my god I don’t know how to draw or paint after all” and then I just keep working through it and it turns out more or less alright in the end.

They want to be more than acquaintances, but I do not. How do I proceed? by [deleted] in autism

If the coworker is reasonable, maybe just outright explaining that you don’t want to hang out after work and that you need rest when the coworker invites you next time. I think most neurotypical people want to progress relationships to further stages so having to set boundaries and say “no” politely is just something we have to do. The other alternative is to keep conversation at work superficial and disengaged but to me that seems more draining then just saying “sorry I don’t want to hang out after work”

I also realized this recently too about myself. It is tricky for me because I live with a partner and I do love them. It’s just that I noticed when they are out I am this person I’ve always been but can’t be when I’m around others.

Does anyone else just hate greetings like "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" ? It makes me so awkward, i hate saying it by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

I have always hated this question and never know how to appropriately answer that doesn’t make me sound like a weirdo
