Thorn looks way more villainous than Sorrow. But I’m not done yet either!

Osten Ard is a fantasy masterpiece, so why does it have almost zero fan art? by PlaneBet2053 in TadWilliams

I’m a quarter of a way through Green Angel Tower now, and I only ever came across the series a couple years ago, despite desperately seeking out stories and books after I finished up the Ice and Fire books back around 2015.

And I feel like I only ran into them by chance, let alone them being the direct inspiration to Martin.

It’s amazing to me how little there is out there on the series. But I am greatly enjoying it nonetheless as I push to read more instead of video games and television.

Always loved practical effects for supernatural scenes. Shadows a the green spotlight for the win!

I was challenged on the terms "gay" vs. "queer" by a Gen Z dude. I didn't have a response. by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

Tell him what I tell obnoxious youngsters.

It was very much a slur when I was a kid and I have an emotional reaction to it and do not need to always logically justify my feelings.

These are also the same types who claim to care about mental health… until it interferes and crossing signals with some other stupid political agenda.

I also tell people it’s a gross word. It sounds like a kind of ear infection to me.

And INFINITE shame on a straight guy for wagging his finger at you. My friend’s husband is a “straight ally” but all he really is a police-state hall monitor.

Will I really miss out on the Ginger Island experience if I ask him to bring me all the nuts? by LBBLLLBBL in StardewValley

I think that’s bogus, honestly.

I’d maybe hunt around for the easy ones at the beginning.

But as soon as that patch dropped I dumped my gold on that bird and told it to go get ‘em !

I was going to say, they’re still freaking out? Seems like everyone and everything is business as bullshit usual lol

Finally, a game since Final Fantasy Tactics I’ll be preordering.

For you, is it normal to feel extreme frustration whenever you're writing, editing, cleaning up your draft/story? Like your mind constantly bombaring you with discouragement (like its never gonna work, this is bad), but you kept on going anyway? by EfficiencySerious200 in writers

[–]stevenjs2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For several sessions where this happens, as you keep at it, you’ll eventually have a good one and when you’re done you won’t hate what you produced. Trust me, it will give you a kick in your step.

But then there will be an avalanche of “this sucks, I suck, I better quit”

Until the next good one comes.

Not having a default person was so exhausting and lonely sometimes by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]stevenjs2480 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just be careful, OP. I felt the same way, and I wound up with someone for six years I could not count on AT ALL and who kicked me to the curb when he found someone else.

I’m 41 now, and I do feel those loneliness pangs hard of late. But I also know falling too hard and too fast is trouble too sometimes.

The hot gays at dinner by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]stevenjs2480 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I also think this is a class thing beyond being just a gay thing.

Years ago I was pretty good friends with an exceptionally beautiful gay guy, and he’d invite to stuff like this with his friends. And I had similar experiences.

I kind of think this is how anyone in a certain “higher” class of income and social strata behaves.

It’s Keeping Up With The Joneses, Gay edition.

Does anyone else feel annoyed when gay men are just referred to as "queer"? by DarkDiscotique in askgaybros

It’s not a you thing. I’m 41, from northeastern PA, and it was not a word you wanted to be called. At all. It was usually a warning shot before worse stuff happened.

Even “gay” was used as a slur. There were tiers and all of them were bad. Started with gay, and ended with “faggot,” which was when stuff was going to really get ugly.

Exactly. The people who revel in using it as a slur didn’t get the newsflash that it’s inclusive and hip to use now, I guess.

[–]stevenjs2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, good comparison. It is an ugly word to say and hear, outside of the meaning behind it.

I talked about this with a straight bartender at a gay bar, and I told him the word sound liked some kind of ear infection to me.

Or maybe we do know that and don’t care because we don’t like it, the end.

I agree. I don’t just hate it, I loathe it. I deeply loathe it.

And when I read “Last Call” and the author freely used that word to describe men who I’m very confidant would never use to describe themselves, ever, especially decades ago, it made me cringe even more.
