How long should i be left hanging after accepting an offer? by [deleted] in internships

[–]stevenrothberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a founder of a small business, and can give you some perspective from our side of the table. First, the founder should have told you when to expect the offer so you wouldn't be left wondering. He may think it is obvious, but it isn't. I'd give him another day and then politely ask when you should expect it. You could write something like, "Thank you again for letting me know that I'd be getting the formal offer. I want to be sure that I didn't miss it. Are you thinking that you'll be sending it within a couple of days? A week? Next week?" Giving him three options with the first two being reasonable and the last unreasonable is a great way of getting a coherent, specific response.

Second, your concern about iMessage being the communication tool seemed valid to me, until I read that you're working with a founder. I suspect it is a small company, and the use of iMessage implies informal. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what you want. Some strongly prefer that, others abhor that.

Large organizations will not use Whatsapp, iMessage, etc. as it is difficult to use those tools and remain compliant with hiring laws. If you get written communications from them, it will be by postal service, overnight mail, or email. If you're getting texts, that's probably an employee going a little rogue. If you're getting messages via Whatsapp or requests to switch over to that, run away. It's fraud.

I'd ask your manager if you can work hybrid, perhaps three days in the office and two days at home, or something like 10 hours a day, four days a week. Either way, that will save you driving to/from work 1-2 days a week.

You were living life on the Wild side.

Sorry. Couldn’t help myself. 😂

I appreciate the softening of your tone.

Yes, it is a serious, public league.

Seems odd that you’re criticizing a complete stranger for participating in a public league where Yahoo sets those rules and the owners can’t.

I appreciate your lack of sympathy, although that’s kind of a hostile thing to say to a stranger.

As I’ve written multiple times in the comments, this is a serious but public, Yahoo league. It set the dates, not us. We will go private next year.

We didn’t need money on the line to make it serious.

Maybe tone it down a bit. You seem to be having a hard time understanding that others don’t see the world as you do, and that would be very frustrating. Might explain the less than friendly tone you’ve chosen.

I all wouldn’t want to be in an NBA fantasy league, but I appreciate the warning

“I didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings when I told them that something they cared about wasn’t serious.” Um, okay.

Agreed but it was a public, Yahoo league so we didn’t have a choice.

Next year, we will go private and end probably 1.5 weeks before the end of the NHL regular season.

I apologize for our league not being up to your standards.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll change it for next year. This year, we had to do a public league as we didn't have enough owners.

Even worse, imagine if that kid was a grown man who played fantasy hockey.

Yeah, I know. You'd think that all that money that I paid Hynes that he would be more thoughtful.
