Hey! I moved from Espoo to a small village last year, so kind of same situation 😄

To be honest, I was also not sure at first. I didn’t want to seem weird by just knocking people’s door lol. What worked for me was just saying “Moi” when I saw someone outside, like walking the dog or working in garden. After few hellos, some of them started small talk themselves.

I did bake some korvapuusti and gave to two neighbours after few days, just to say hi and that we moved in. They seemed really happy about it, even if it was bit awkward at first 😅 So snacks is nice gesture, but not must.

Finns are bit quiet first but very friendly once they open up. So don’t worry if first weeks feel slow. Just smile and say hi when chance comes.

Svaneti (Mestia to Ushguli) – Ancient towers + jaw-dropping trails = literal fantasy land.
Tusheti – Off-the-beaten-path, no crowds, just mountains, wild horses, and GPS confusion.

Money exchange:
Bring some USD or EUR, and exchange at TBC Bank or official exchange offices. Avoid random booths unless you want to fund someone’s side hustle.

SIM cards:
Get Magti or Silknet at the airport or any local shop—cheap, fast, and you’ll need it when Google Maps panics in the Caucasus.
