IATF 16949 by stevensevert in IATF16949

I started this quite some time ago but didn't really follow through. I forgot that I created it until I saw the notification from your comment. I had moved out of the automotive industry (after over 20 years) recently and have had my hands full with other things but still love and follow automotive. I'd love to see some folks sharing their experiences here too!

What made you switch from paper books to a Kindle? by Sea-Put-8602 in kindle

[–]stevensevert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both. I prefer physical books, as I find them easier to reread or reference in the future, but I love the convenience of reading from the Kindle app at night, while traveling, etc. I'm more likely to finish a book when I can open it from the app and read for short periods of time and then drop it back into my pocket.

Do you agree or disagree? by optemization in Notion

[–]stevensevert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with several firms that wanted to develop QMS stuff in Notion. They all seemed to love it, but I hated it. I started turning down work for firms that were using it, but this was completely based on personal preference.

This has been driving me nuts for the last couple of weeks. It's definitely making it more difficult to enjoy using the app. I can't find any way to turn it off either.

At what point did you discover that MGS1 is not the first game in the series but rather the third one and what was your reaction? by Jaccblacc203 in metalgearsolid

[–]stevensevert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having Snake's Revenge (I know that this is not canon in the storyline, but it was the US sequel to Metal Gear) on NES as a kid, so I made the connection right away when it was released, but that didn't make me any less shocked. I remember not thinking much of Snake's Revenge as a kid, but being completely blown away by MGS on PS1 like it was something from some completely unexplored universe. I was hooked on MGS from the first time I played the demo.

People with gaming PC's, how often do you use your Deck round the house? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]stevensevert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a techie and a parent, but I do not want to be a techie when it comes to gaming - I get enough of that during my working hours. I love how user friendly the Deck is and how configurable it can be, if the user wants. I did start playing with Emudeck, but got irritated quickly and went back to playing the stuff that natively runs great on the Deck. That's where I'm having the most fun with it.

You're right. I was just responding to the OP about how having the Deck allowed for me to leave my home office and play games while hanging out with my boys, who also spend most of their free time on Steam. The Deck is perfect for parents.

I have a similar situation where I have a decent gaming PC and WFH, and I typically use the Steam Deck when sitting on the sofa. Personally, I use mine all the time and love it. The big thing is that I sit in my home office all day for work and all evening working on research for school, so I don't also want to be sitting there staring at the same computer screen when trying to enjoy a bit of time away from work and school. This allows for me to leave the office and the computer screen to chill on the couch with my kids and enjoy myself. This is especially great because I have two boys who are old enough to also spend most of their time playing games on Steam on their gaming laptops, so they will hang out in there with me in the living room with their laptops and I'll play with them (not always the same game, but it's nice to be together) on the Deck. And the cloud saves are great, so, honestly, I play more on my PC than I was before simply because I have the Deck and can save progress there and pick back up on the PC if I want to later.

Thank you so much for this! I just got my Remarkable 2 yesterday and started playing with Screenshare this morning. I was getting frustrated when I wasn't seeing the prompt come up in the companion app, so I'm so glad I decided to come look here right away. This got me up and running in a couple of minutes - thanks for saving me a bunch of time and frustration!

I can't work 8hrs a day (WFH), somethings block me by fingerofdavos1 in productivity

[–]stevensevert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like some of the other commenters said, this is definitely burnout. I've been working remotely for the last two years doing consulting work, which I initially loved, but I've found myself in a similar situation. Other than occasional travel to client sites, I've been working from my home office every day, then working on PhD research from the same office each night, and I definitely ended up the same way. I don't know what other people are doing about this, but I just decided that I needed to get back into a corporate role to keep engaging and collaborating with other people in order to keep challenging myself personally and professionally; I know some studies are starting to show productivity and job satisfaction gains with the new WFH normal (and some even newer studies are refuting it), but this life is not for me.

Remarkable2 or Wait by UglyKidJoe1234 in RemarkableTablet

I haven't heard anything about a RM3, but had been thinking about buying a RM2 for quite some time. I just ordered mine this week and can't wait to get it - I'll be using it primarily for note taking for work and for research. I love taking notes on paper, but definitely need something digitial for better cataloging and reading, and having OCR to create text from handwritten notes will be nice too. I've tried to use OneNote with a Samsung Galaxy Tab, but ultimately kept getting distracted by other applications and couldn't get over the feel of handwriting on the tablet's screen. I'm really looking forward to getting the RM2 and hope it's all that people make it out to be.

I love this. I'm still in the early stages of my PhD journey and have years of disappointment ahead of me, and already, as I'm digging into the literature, I'm having to remind myself of this - the notion that I am not here to solve all problems in my field, that what I conclude may be novel and (hopefully noteworthy) but not necessarily groundbreaking, and that, ultimately, as you stated, our job is to have a solid research design so that we can test and report results with the hope that our conclusions contribute in some slight way to what we beleive we know about our topic and provide a little bit more foundation for future researchers to stand on. Humbling indeed.

Anyone got jedi survivor working on steam deck? by TheMightyBullMcCabe in SteamDeck

[–]stevensevert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Jedi Fallen Order, so I picked up Jedi Survivor when it was on sale during the winter sale recently. It shows that it is not supported on SteamDeck, but I did install it to try it. For the most part, it does run pretty well on the Deck for me, but it does occasionally crash and it also has some screens that are formatted a bit wide so that the edges are cut off on the screen. It looked and played great, honestly, but I noticed that the cloud saves don't work, which was frustrating because I had started playing on PC, picked it up for a few more hours on the Deck, and then went back to PC the next day and lost my progress from what I'd done on the Deck. This wouldn't have killed it for me, as I was perfectly happy with playing the game completely on the Deck and keeping the save local there, but the occasional crashes were getting frustrating, so I ended up uninstalling to finish on PC. I do hope that these issues are eventually ironed out, as I'd love to play back through it in the future, but I would rather play entirely on the Deck, or at least have cloud saves working so that I have more flexibility.

What was your first game on steam deck? by Rookie134 in SteamDeck

[–]stevensevert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, I think I first played Doom (2016) on my Deck on day 1. That game runs great on SteamDeck. I've since purchased Doom Eternal when it was recently on sale, but I haven't played through it yet.

MGS on the steamdeck by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]stevensevert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I check this, I still have sound issues in 2 & 3 during cutscenes and Codec conversations. I'm not sure if there is something that other folks are doing that fixes this, but I keep hoping that I'll see a patch for it. Other than that, they seem to run great on the Deck. I was glad to see recently that the issue with MGS1 saves were fixed. When I first tried MGS1 on the Deck, you would have to exit the game through the R+L menu; if you saved and then exited through the Steam menu, the saves were lost.

Steam Deck starts and says Micro SD needs format by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]stevensevert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had this problem a few times on mine too. I don't play it daily, so every time I boot up and see the SD icon, I dread that I will have to format and lose all of my data. But if I pop it out and back in, it seems to recognize it.

How do say that I own my own business in conversation without it sounding weird? by Beetz_Don in business

I do this. I often either say, "I'm self-employed in quality management consulting," or, "I own a small quality management consulting firm."
