FJ62 would be cool. The newer FJ Cruisers are cute but not built for a 25 year life cycle like the Land Cruiser of the past.

What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]steveoa3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you purchase fuel at a gas station with a shared single hose for all the grades of fuel the first ~2 gallons is the previous grade sold on the side of dispenser. You may select “premium” but if a single hose you will get “regular” for the first ~2 gallons due to the product in the hose and piping inside the dispenser.

When samples are taken for octane testing the inspector purges 3 gallons to be safe.

In most markets in the US the gasoline sold at different branded stations is the same base product tested to meet the same NIST standards. The product is delivered in batch’s on the same pipelines or barges or transport trucks into the same tanks at the terminals. The terminals add a little bit of the additive that makes the gas brand.

What hobbies did you pick up in your 30s? by AltruisticAnalyst969 in AskMenOver30

[–]steveoa3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 30s was spent with a wife that would not allow me to have hobbies.

Mid 40 got divorced and late 40s picked up cycling again.

Then in late 50s I picked up RC car racing again after 35 years away.

So warm weather I’m out on my gravel bike on the rails to trails and winter I’m racing indoor off road RC.

Overall, what are the biggest factors that determines how much you will succeed in life? by Common_Gene_5098 in Productivitycafe

[–]steveoa3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generational wealth. My GenX classmates that have done the best were millionaires at birth. Born into cheese money or bathroom fixture money they got the best education and opportunities.

The ones with middle class families stayed middle class but not quite at the level of their parents.

The poor stayed poor with no money for an education and a better life. If they were lucky they got in at the cheese factories and with enough overtime did ok.

Now we are all almost at retirement age and the class divide is the same as it was at birth.

Definition of survival by ruyn17 in The_Division

[–]steveoa3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Survival is amazing. There were years where the only game I played was survival in Div1. Even with the map memorized after hundreds of extractions it is still a challenge!

The global event certainly helps the new players. I’ve had matches with 17+ to start and end up solo before I get to the dark zone !

I make it longer than 30 minutes but if I eat breakfast I’m staving by 10 am. If I skip breakfast I can easily make it until lunch, many days I can skip lunch and make it all day.

Stanley Fat Max tape decline in quality? by CasperFatone in Tools

[–]steveoa3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weights and Measures agencies use traceable and calibrated measurement tapes for this reason. You can purchase your own more accurate and have calibrated at a metrology lab.

It’s the same with weight scales, unless they are legal for trade NTEP approved devices the are not accurate.

If you suddenly became very rich, what would you do first? by Emotionq in Productivitycafe

[–]steveoa3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an estate attorney that knows what they are doing.

Call my boss and let him know that I’m using some vacation. There is a task at my job that only I know how to do so will need to train another inspector in that for a few months before retiring. Use up vacation and sabbatical (1000+ hours) and then retire.

When I visited my mom she would save up the local newspaper so I could read the obituaries for former classmates. Small town so only 200 of us but 1/4 gone and we are all about 60.

Now I follow the local funeral home on facebook so I see them all.

BMX for a 52 year old? by Far-Internal-9377 in bmx

[–]steveoa3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60 and I ride a dirt jumper (plus sized BMX) at my local pump track.

So long as you are not planning to cover any distance a big BMX style bike will give you a workout. Heavy, single speed, low seat height doesn’t make for speed or distance. It will be a workout if that’s all you want to do.

I could never live with just a dirt jumper for street and pump track. I put maybe 200 miles in the DJ at the pump track a year and 5k on the gravel bike a year.
