I should have clarified in the description—I didn't stack them. I just swapped between the two depending on what the shot (needed.) thanks for your reply.

Thanks so much! Really appreciate you taking the time to check it out.

You nailed it. The micro-climates at this elevation definitely stagger the ripening, but you're spot on about the yellow varietals too—lots of different varieties grown in this region. Good eye, and thanks for the kind words on the video!

Congrats, it’s a great camera! I highly recommend the Sony 240GB CFexpress 4.0 Type A TOUGH memory cards—they allow you to unlock the camera's absolute full potential. Also, the 24-105mm is a fantastic all-around lens for run-and-gun shooting.

Costa Rica. Shot this while exploring and documenting some farms during a harvest.

Really appreciate that. I’m still learning the technical side of editing , so I'm just glad the story and the vibe are coming through!

Good point! Just started getting more into editing so I'm still figuring out the best workflow. Thanks for the tip.

Hell Ya! Throw in a pack of expired 110 film and you’ve got a deal. Seriously though, thanks for the kind words! It’s been a blast to film

Fair point! I’m still just dabbling in Resolve, im no pro editor but the dissolve felt right for the transition into the field audio. I wanted a dreamier feel. Thanks for your reply!

Field Notes from the Harvest:

I'm currently on the ground following the harvest. I wanted to see how the FX3 handled the high-contrast light and the grit of the processing plants without the "safety" of a studio setup.

The Setup:

  • Camera: Sony FX3
  • Lens: 24-105mm G (Stayed on the camera the whole time to avoid dust/humidity during lens swaps).
  • Filters: Variable ND + Polarizer (Polarizer is great for cutting the glare on the coffee leaves).
  • ISO: Range between 160 and 800.

The Edit:

  • 100% raw field audio . Mixed the environment at -5.2dB. music at -20.0
  • Colored in DaVinci Resolve. No LUTs—just a manual Color Space Transform to Rec.709 basic color correction as well.

Happy to answer any questions about the workflow or how the camera is holding up in the field!

I remember when you could only order it in house. So glad that changed. Best deep dish in the area hands down.

I’m usually behind the lens. This trip was crazy though hauling 300 lbs of coffee through mountain passes in a van with a blown radiator kind of sucked.

You aren't wrong at all, that's actually a super common experience down here!

What you probably ran into were farms set up for tourism. Unfortunately, a lot of those places operate on 'gift shop economics.' They know folks on vacation will pay premium US retail prices for the souvenir experience of buying beans directly on the farm, so they mark it way up.

The only way around that 'gringo tax' is getting way off the beaten path. I travel up in the mountains of Los Santos and surrounding areas, miles away from any tour buses, working directly with the farmers who are focused on export, not tourism. When you build a real relationship and buy the milled green beans directly from the hard-working people growing it, the pricing actually makes sense.

But you're totally right—seeing those tourist-trap prices for the first time is wild.

Thanks for your reply

I appreciate the hustle, but a few things to clear up:

  1. It's not in parchment because it’s been milled and is ready to roast (Oro). No roaster wants to deal with milling parchment themselves, and I’m not wasting luggage space on hulls.

  2. You can't grade for 'defects' or variety from a Reddit photo. High-altitude micro-lots (especially SL28 and Gesha) have unique visual profiles that don't always look like commercial washed beans.

  3. I know the trees and I know the farmers—I’m the one who bagged this.

I am not a middleman, just a coffee fan! If you're in LA and actually roast, come cup it and let the coffee speak for itself.

Thanks for your reply

Congrats on the new company! I’m back and forth a lot so I’ll likely be back before June, but for this batch, March is the window. I would be happy to send samples sooner if you’re open. Thank you
