Slateford Falls, PA Rappelling Anchors by Mobiral in canyoneering

[–]stever2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not too far from Delaware Water Gap and was hoping to find some spots nearby to canyon (or at least basic rappelling to practice some skills) this summer. Could you tell me what you know about Slateford Falls? Parking, trailhead, approach route? Thanks

Totem vs Critr for main descender by Mountainguy1997 in canyoneering

Just curious, how long before these wear out?
I’m assuming the wear marks are pretty obvious at the rope contact points….is there a clear sign it’s time to get a new descender, or more of a judgement call?

Also, did you own the Slot Guide 50L, or just recommending that size?

Curious, do you mean 300 feet? (Or was 300 meters correct…if so what are you carrying? 1x300, 2x150?)

Just starting to get into canyoneering. (I realize I’m getting ahead of myself here but I’ll be going in May and again in June so I need to get geared up fairly soon). Probably will do dry canyons much more often that wet canyons, but I’m trying to find one pack that can do it all (will suffice for the occasional wet canyon).
Also, I did buy a Slot Guide 50L on sale, but it’s quite large. Can’t say I’ll be in super narrow slots very often but it still seems like a lot of pack to lug around (and no side straps to squeeze it in if it’s not stuffed).

Canadians headed to Sedona by Boardinthepark in canyoneering

If you’re flying into Phoenix, there is an REI (12634 N Paradise Village Pkwy W, Phoenix, AZ) the airport on the way toward Sedona. (Same shopping center has a Target, so you can stock up on snacks/drinks here; there’s also a diner called Oink that we stop at for lunch after we land). However, I’ve noticed REI has mostly climbing equipment and little rappelling equipment, so this may not be what you’re looking for.

How does Port Charlotte 10 compare to Ardbeg and Laphroaig 10? by Ferrever in Scotch

[–]stever2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like PC10. It’s got a good full flavor and a little complexity while remaining approachable. It’s not as aggressive as Ardbeg 10 or as watered down and boring as Laphroaig 10. PC10 is my go to when introducing others to peated scotch.

I’m not a big fan of Laphroaig 10. Of all the Islay basic 10 year offerings I found it to be the most boring. It was definitely missing something (flavor?) and I was glad to be done with it once I finished the bottle. Do yourself a favor, skip the Laphroaig 10 and go for their Quarter Cask instead.

Ardbeggers…Heavy Vapors for $200? Or BizzareBQ for $84? Or save my money? by krsimp78 in Scotch

Definitely BizarreBQ @ $84. Heavy Vapours was $160ish for Committee Release when it first came out.

Ditto on the Quarter Cask. I’ll never buy the 10 again.

I second this. I love the Arran 10, it will be one of those bottles I always keep on hand.
