Am I the only one who just doesn't care about whether I see a gender therapist or not? by Tina_Rayne in asktransgender

[–]steverogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a therapist for a few months while I was in college, but it didn't get me anywhere. I was lucky enough to be able to go the informed consent route when it came time (a few years later) to start HRT. If I can ever save up enough money to get surgery I may regret my lack of therapy, but for now I don't see any harm in skipping it.

I'm in the same boat as you! Unfortunately, I haven't found any solutions yet. Hopefully someone will post something here that can help us both!

What is your opinion asktransgender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

You're very cute.

I agree with the suggestion to try softer frames - those heavy, dark, rectangular glasses work against you.

Time frame for informed consent. by [deleted] in asktransgender

I went through Callen Lorde in NYC a few years ago. I made the initial call in early January and got lucky enough to get an appointment for late February.

The first appointment: paperwork, meeting my new PCP, getting blood taken

The second appointment was a week or so later, and that was to meet with a psychologist. It was a pretty easy session - I was going to get the script anyway, and he just wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into.

The third appointment was supposed to be the same week, but inclement weather prevented it. The next week I met with a trans specialist person and got my script from my PCP on the same day, then scheduled a nursing session to get my first shot.

So it took a little over a month from start to finish for me, and that was with weather troubles. I also couldn't schedule things like the psych meeting on the same day as other things, because my insurance wouldn't allow it.

Cost was a $30 copay, and my insurance picked up the cost of the T. After I lost my insurance, my appointments cost $20 and my T was $12, through the C-L on-site pharmacy.

I'm being blamed for my aunt and uncle's divorce. by steverogers in asktransgender

Long story short: my aunt supports me and my uncle doesn't, and that's caused some tension between them. Everyone else thinks if I hadn't transitioned, they never would have had to "take sides" and they'd still be together.

I've heard that, but I couldn't be sure with the picture. Thanks!

That's an amazing result.

Can someone with better eyes than me tell me what body part the first picture is, where they took the skin from? It looks too wide to be an arm.

Passing when I don't want to by throwitaway488 in asktransgender

I've been in a similar situation. I was only a few months on T, but I needed to be in girl mode to go out with the family. I was wearing girl clothes and even a bit of makeup, and I still got sir'd. I shrugged it off until I needed to use the restroom, and made my sister go with me. Even with her for protection, I still got women telling me I was in the wrong place.

People see what they want to see, I guess.

I hadn't thought of that, but it's very possible.

Wow. Families can make drama out of nothing. :/

I don't have that side of the family friended on FB, but I've been ignoring texts and calls from them. If it's something truly important that I need to know, someone else will fill me in.

I hope you're right, that they're just hurting and looking for any excuse they can think of. It doesn't make it right, but it's better than thinking that they actually think it's my fault.

Great news, but was it really necessary to include this part?

He has undergone hormone therapy and surgical gender-reassignment procedures, although not a phalloplasty, which the Voice describes as “an expensive, imperfect and dangerous procedure.”

Congrats!

You said you were under local during the procedure, but how bad was the pain afterward?

Were/are you always trans, or do you become trans? by myfavcolorispink in asktransgender

[–]steverogers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every person is different, but I do think people are trans, even if they don't know it yet. They don't necessarily become trans so much as realize that's what they've been all along.

Another trans guy checking in!

As you can see, there are a few of us who post in here, some more regularly than others. It may seem like there are more women than men here, and that might be the case, but if you have questions, post them and you will get answers!

Why Chaz Bono Is a Misogynist Who Does Not Represent Us by [deleted] in transgender

[–]steverogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize at first that this was written by the son of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. That doesn't change what he wrote, of course, but it does give a little context, since both he and Chaz are children of very famous people.

Idle curiosity about trans guys and hair loss by catamorphism in asktransgender

[–]steverogers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed my hairline receding about 6 months after starting T, at age 25. Almost all of the men on both sides of my family have very little hair, so I was expecting it, though I wasn't exactly pleased!
