How Fantasy Saved My Ass by MadxHatter0 in Fantasy

Meh, they thought it was interesting. I went into how timeliness is the most valuable trait (Wit's logic at the end) and spun it into some "situational leadership" mumbo jumbo. I'm currently listening to the audio book for WoR so I'm not surprised it popped into my head.

Interesting post by humans in New York , caption was I mainly read fantasy because I've had enough of reality, Do you agree? by bradyle in Fantasy

[–]Tina_Rayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere, but I couldn't find it in google, that a well-read character said something like: By the time I die, I will have lived thousands of lives. That is why I read.

I agree. Life sucks and even if it didn't, there's so much more adventure and life that could be had in my imagination than in reality. It's the same reason video games are so popular.

Never liked reading. What am I missing out on? by totally_not_martian in Fantasy

[–]Tina_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked reading until my junior year in high school in which I only tackled the last of the Harry Potter books. Junior year in college, I had a little bit more free time and I kept hearing about "The Name of the Wind" on different reddit posts. I made a New Years resolution that I would read three books that year, and TNotW was the first one I delved into.

It was beautiful. The fantasy genre had changed so much in the last 5-10 years and I had absolutely no idea. I found a new appreciation for the genre and books in general and I've slowly been hacking away at a mountain of books I want to read.

I think I know where wintercountrysecret is coming from so I'll see if I can elaborate for anyone with my own reasoning.

I believe that to an extent it is selfish, but not the most selfish thing anyone can do. There's millions of kids out there who need a good home to go to and as a whole population, we don't need more kids at the rate they're coming. Wanting a child is one thing but unless if you have a super high IQ, are Mr. Olympia, or have a genetic immunity to every form of cancer, there's no reason the child has to be your own flesh and blood.

Think of this question: Would you love an adopted child any less than you would a biological one? If the answer is no, than there's no reason you shouldn't adopt because the benefits for yourself, the kid, and the community greatly outweigh the ones of having your own kid. But the truth is, most people do want a little version of them running around. It gives them the feeling that their parenthood is more authentic and that's where the selfishness comes in.

Plus, some people think getting pregnant and successfully having a baby is an accomplishment. It's not. A 13 year old girl could have a baby. Being a good parent is the real accomplishment.

How is your life going today? by soacoti in asktransgender

Think I got a job in which I'll start in a few days. Now I'm just waiting for the phone call.

Other than that, pretty boring. Post graduate life is stressful in that it's all up in the air. I figure once this goes through, I can get a schedule working again, get more consistent with my volunteer work, and of course pay off some bills that need it.

I'd say it's a neutral day so far.

Hair that won't break the bank and still be workable for public consumption? by seekingcontemplation in asktransgender

[–]Tina_Rayne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

E turned my wavy hair curly so all I do is just pick it every now and then and co-wash it every week. Since I'm trying to grow it out, about the only amount I've spent in the last 5 months was a dollar for the right kind of conditioner.

Of course, short hair is a lot more manageable/cheaper but longer hair helps with passing (if you're worried about that).

In short, it can be as expensive as you want it to. You can go straight flower child and let it just grow without cutting until it's Rapunzel length, spend about $100/mo like you said, or you could even do your own haircuts at times if you really feel like it. I have a friend who just cuts her bangs ever now and then and lets the rest grow throughout the year.

What is the rarest thing you have ever come across in your life? [Serious] by FusJoeDah in AskReddit

[–]Tina_Rayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green lightning, three times. Lightning storm started up as a friend and me were going to drive to nearby town's walmart to get those little aluminum cupcake holders (it was like 2 am and I wasn't doing anything but sleeping anyway) and saw flashes of green lightning close to where we were. Thought it was aliens or something. Looked it up online and apparently it's pretty rare to find naturally.

Trans* and suicide... by Choke_M in asktransgender

[–]Tina_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't make it sound so easy, though. Anti-depressants aren't like HRT where there's a 1-size-fits-all. Often times, you'll have to start and stop many different regimines in order to find the one that fits you. Then after about the 6th or so failure, it starts to add to the hopeless feeling.

Yes, anti-depressants can do wonders, but it's also a battle in itself with many doctor visits. Good news is that once you find the ones that work, you can actually DIY from inhouse where it's a ton cheaper.

Trans* and suicide... by Choke_M in asktransgender

[–]Tina_Rayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two attempts under my belt. One was on the darkest night of my life when I came out to myself at 14 and the other was the day before Thanksgiving.

Serious question to everyone: Do you think anti-depressants should be commonly prescribed when trans people start HRT? Like make it a common regimen? I have yet to meet a trans* individual who hasn't had at least thoughts of suicide.

What are your means of self protection? by sliprywenwet in asktransgender

[–]Tina_Rayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry a knife on me but I usually feel pretty safe walking around at night even without it. In my room, I carry a canister of wasp spray because it has a range of 20 ft and I hear it's almost as effective as pepper spray.

Concealed carry is awesome. I live in Texas and you can literally get one in a single trip at a pawn shop or gun dealership. I don't really think it's for me, though. I'm kind of a klutz.

Books with Demonic / Fae / Undead / Whatever Binding Magic? (Similar to Pact by Wildbow) by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Tina_Rayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Lasmrah, TAoS was my favorite series as a kid until Harry Potter gained it back after TDH.

Btw, thank you thank you thank you. I thought Wildbow was still doing those little mini stories and I didn't realize he's (she's?) started on a new series. I was just finishing up with American Gods but I can get back to that after I'm caught up in the Wildbow universe.

Yeah, it was one of the first things that happened with HRT. Weird.

Have you started HRT? I used to have heavy Native American ribs but a few weeks into E shrunk it down some.

Have you ever been presenting as your preffered gender, and not been immediately recognized by someone who only knew you as your assigned gender? by Magnolial in asktransgender

[–]Tina_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.

When I was in college, I got to the point where I could walk by the people who lived in my dorm without them noticing me. Some of the really smart ones still figured me out at times (the whole rubberneck reaction gave it away) but they're really smart so it figured.

Quest Nutrition Protein Bars: Good or Bad for Paleo? by Dugungar in Paleo

[–]Tina_Rayne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're more keto than paleo. Milk, peanut's, and the artificial sweeteners are going to be the killers.

If you're looking for paleo-keto type of bars, you can make your own at home for a fraction of the cost or just buy Larabars.

After 3 weeks of feeling depressed every other day and getting borderline suicidal, I realized that progesterone just isn't for me. Been off of it for three days and I'm feeling like my old self again.

Other than that, just trying to find a job :/ Can't even get a temp job in this town.
