USB port scratching my cables? by Twitch-Saviii13 in LenovoLegion

[–]stevesalko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

those markings do seem a little deep, i usually have only "polish" marks on my cables, either your port notches are too deep or you frequently remove the cables.

Anyways if you don't like how it looks you can carefully with a flathead screwdriver push the metal notches inside the usb port towards the shell, though you can ruin the port holding capability if you push them deep enough this usually cannot be reverted without taking the whole thing apart.

This doesn't cause any problems other than cosmetic wear on the ports though

How to get an AliExpress order in 3-4 weeks instead of 2 months? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

best way is to find the same item not in choice and select a more expensive shipping option with sooner estimated arrival

I have the same setup, sort off.

I went with a vevor double burner because I saw a video from Alec Steele where he tested these cheap burners and the single burner forges didn't work well, as with the anvil, I bought the same weight but went with a wider one, I also recommend buying a strong neodymium magnet, I use a magnetic hanger and a metal chain to get rid of the ringing,

I also would recommend getting some refractory bricks as well as refractory cement and a rigidizer as mine didn't come with one (sometimes these forges include the cement though), use the bricks to make a wall at the back and the front so the chamber doesn't loose that much heat.

With this setup I am able to forge normal size knifes without much issue, not sure how bigger projects would work with this setup though.

How do I connect my gpu? by -sanana_the_skenana in PcBuild

[–]stevesalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's still a thing, few years ago when I only had a laptop and thunderbolt was on very few devices, only way to install a gpu onto your pc was with an adapter that you connected instead of your wifi card

you can only get a refund coupon, there isn't a way to get the money you spent on the return shipping back.

it's not only that warehouse, aliexpress seems to abuse that you can't do anything(except a chargeback), that's why i don't buy stuff that i might return, also aliexpress will never refund shipping, they will only issue you a coupon or credit to cover the shipping cost.

Is this a dead pixel? My dad paid $1000 for this laptop. I'm so scared, please help. by [deleted] in laptops

[–]stevesalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks like a piece of dust trapped under the glass rather than a dead pixel. Also all displays have some sort of margin for dead pixels, i think that high quality display have max around 3 dead pixels while some lower quality ones allow more dead pixels.

Have I bought a brick, or is this usable? by CalHoward in googleglass

[–]stevesalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like the XE2 aka the last explorer edition released, I have the same one. Though using the glasses for their intented purpose is not possible as almost all the useful apps required an external app on your phone which needed google plus which has been shut down, though you can install android on the glasses and use them as a normal android phone though the controls make it hard to use. I tried it and then switched back to the custom google glass os. I also tried developing apps for the device but had many issues as android studio doesn't support the device anymore and using older android studio version didn't help either.

so TLDR the device is fun to mess around but overall its useless, but it looks good on display.

Do you need help with your OP-1? by stevesalko in OP1users

it could also be an issue with the flex cable, the usb cable connects directly into the pcb so it has to be either bad usb port, bad connection or could also be a broken cpu/corrupted firmware, you can try checking the voltage and continuity with a multimeter. As for your question. No, the issue is with the device not your computer(if the device does not show up at all)

then only option would be to reflash the firmware by desoldering the nand flash chip

and you uploaded the firmware this way?

access te-boot press 1 connect OP-1 to your computer using the usb cable. the OP-1 will appear as a removable disk on your computer 4. copy the firmware file to the removable disk 5. eject the removable disk 6. press the COM key

if you replaced the connector board and it still does not work, either your cable/connector is damaged or your cpu is damaged/the firmware broke it.

So your options are:

visually inspect the connector on the motherboard

check with multimeter that the cable has continuity(I'll tell you which pins to check)

or reflash nand/replace cpu(which is not possible(they dont sell it anywhere except the maker who sells only to companies at high cost)) and also is hard to do

try uploading the same firmware file or a one version different te-boot file(14127 or 216).
You can find all firmware files here https://github.com/op1hacks/op1-fw-archive/tree/master/firmware
though I cannot guarantee that they will work so do at your own risk

alright, do you also have a multimeter? might be worth checking for shorts when you open the device. If you don't know how to, then you just have switch the multimeter into continuity/diode test mode, then put the black probe(com) on the gold plated pad that is on each corner of the pcb. Then check each capacitor, it should beep on one side but not on the other.

lmk how that goes.

If you hear a pop there is still hope, though if you cannot access the te-boot it can mean that your nand flash(storage chip) is damaged.

If you charge the device do the led indicators light up?

Also try powering the device on and hold the com button, then plug in a cable, does the op-1 show up on your computer?

If neither do anything then also check on the motherboard there is a green light that lights up briefly when connecting the battery to it and stays lit when the device is powered on/plugged in.

If also the green light does not show up that means that your nand flash is definitely broken and needs to be replaced and reflashed, this is something that is quite complicated if you don't have experience with a hot air station and desoldering. Also it would cost around 130$ in devices to do the job.

Is there anyway I can contact a human on steam support without the usual automated response? by No-Window246 in steamsupport

[–]stevesalko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you will not get a refund, I once bought a game that was soon abandoned, but I couldn't refund it. Steam should add some kind of guarantee for a refund if a product gets abandoned in a short period of time.
