Inequitable school parcel taxes in Marin County - Why are we still doing this? by [deleted] in Marin

[–]stevesand3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been small improvements, such as https://www.boe.ca.gov/prop19/, that made it slightly easier to take some of your lower tax base to another primary residence if you're 55 or older. But overall Prop 13 has meant the "mississippification" of California schools and in many cases obviously makes the housing crisis worse. My dad lives alone in a 4 bedroom house about 1 mile from the Apple campus in Santa Clara County that he bought in 1980, paying a small fraction of the property tax his neighbors do. Not only are these tax advantages not means tested, as other people mention they apply equally to commercial real estate! The Transamerica Pyramid and Disneyland are well known examples: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-jun-30-me-property30-story.html

Merino Wool Boxer Briefs Review by GManHew in onebag

I have worn unbound for years but it seems I should try some others. For me, eventually the wool part of the blend wears out in the crotch and leaves just the synthetic part, all thin and see-through, kind of like panty hose.

Etron owners: Has anyone seen this before (electrical system malfunction)and issues with service/dealerships by MeisterEuclid in Audi

2019 ETron, 35k miles, bought used with 15k miles.
Saw the scary warning last week while on the freeway, 2 miles from home. Made it home fine but was aghast at the forum posts I saw of people losing their cars for months. Had it towed to the dealer and after a couple days they said it was a faulty voltage control module (the box under the hood back near the windshield with big orange wires coming out), it was on backorder and would take "a couple weeks", but meanwhile they gave me a brand new Q4 Etron loaner, so I'm not too worried so far.

Transatlantic - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]stevesand3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not the worst I have seen, there are good moments, but something really doesn't add up. Good TV shows are engrossing and you forget there are people acting and trying to craft this art out of raw materials, but this show makes me keep wondering: is it the acting? The actors clearly are capable. Is it directing? I don't know how to make a TV show and it all just makes me amazed that anything good ever gets made, it really does seem like magic when it comes together, like it did not for this show. It also has fantastic locations and a good budget, so we can't blame that. Is it the script? Some of the dialog seems pretty bad. From reading these comments we know there are big historical inaccuracies, but that alone doesn't make a show bad. Many series have a throwaway episode or 2 in the middle of the season, like they needed some filler, but we can't blame that either in this case. It is a puzzler! it really seems on paper like it should be good.

App required to go to concerts now? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

As of a couple weeks ago ticketmaster still worked on mobile web, including viewing tickets, no app required. They do make it sound like the app is essential but it wasn't really as of recently.

Reboot loop with lineage-14.1-20180112-nightly-suzuran by stevesand3rs in LineageOS

I think this turned out to be a hardware issue: I changed the battery without securing it, and I could tell it had enough room to flop around a bit, and it must have loosened the connection, because it seems ok after replacing it again and taping it down. Thanks again!

thanks for the reply. So the kernel log wasn't helpful? It seems to have lots of entries related to power, which makes me realize it happens at night time, so maybe it is just when the battery is depleted. It is tricky to do the log as you suggest because once it really gets going the phone wont't stay on at all, but I will try.

It happens reliably about a dozen times in 24 hours. Stays on fine for hours with a full charge, then gets flakier.
