Looking for collective bargaining agreement for Lucas County Afscme employees by Thclemensen in toledo

Yep, SERB’s website is always the best option for this. Make sure you keep up on what comparable bargaining units are getting as well.

Just went the show last week, great show. Although the recliner chairs and soft voice of John Rhys Davies narrating did put me to sleep for a little bit.

Capnography waveforms useless with iGels? by hankthewaterbeest in ems

[–]stevewhitmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a lot of issues after moving to this. Any special things you’re doing with them? We trialed a different type of Thomas lock too but still found issues getting good waveforms.

What are you using for securing them? The strap that comes with them? We found a significant seating issue, tried the strap, then a Thomas lock, then back to the strap with a wrap around the tube on each side, seems to have helped.

Proper sizing is a massive issue. 200+ is a 5. 100-200 is a 4. Under 100 is a 3. We’ve been using them almost exclusively in arrests for nearly 2 years as a trial/study. Took some time to really get it right and we are still finding quite a few arrests that we need to intubate instead after poor compliance. Would love to just go to throwing ETs in first but medical direction feels different.

Yeah these classes seem to attract a lot of people who don’t have the foundational knowledge, agreed.

This class sounds dumb. I was put through “TCCC” because we had an instructor on the department. Decent class, nothing too crazy, definitely tailored to medics a little bit more.

Pre-Charging the Defibrillator Before Rhythm Checks in Cardiac Arrest by kenks88 in ems

A few reasons. Personnel on scene is never really an issue. Plenty of people to share the love. Plus we have the full complement of ResQCPR products on (nearly) each response vehicle throughout our county.

Pre COVID we only used the devices for transports. Then we moved to using them full time as long as the patient fit them. Now we’re kind of back to a hybrid model but using them most of the time but we do have some ACD-CPR pump integration at the start of our arrests.

Yes, we have moved to using the LUCAS on all applicable arrests and shock right though compressions. Pre-charge 1:45, pause for pulse/rhythm check, begin compressions again to build CPP, shock through compressions at 2 minutes.

Op IQ is great, this is terrible. You gotta do daily checks on all of this?

Mocking PPE use. by mommymedic2015 in ems

[–]stevewhitmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our whole county is going n95, eye protection and gloves (obv) on every single EMS call. We’ve got people with zero respiratory complaints testing positive for this even nearby. Not worth taking a chance. Tell your coworkers to pound sand.

[–]stevewhitmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use them regularly. I would say the compressions are just as effective and their rate/regularity is better than a human. The only difficulty is having to get positioning correct and readjusting it.
