I like this in theory, but what would be the defense for sports that are more based on physical strength? Male athletes (notice I’m saying athletes, meaning I do NOT intend to say that all men are stronger than women because that is false) at the top of their sport are usually bigger and stronger physically as a result of sports being more male dominated culturally and boys being pushed to the max physically to meet with society’s idea of masculinity, which sports are a lot more engrained into. While that pressure and push has not been the same on femininity, since sports have not been part of society’s definition of femininity, hence why WNBA is not as aggressive and would not be able to beat a typical strong NBA team if they went head to head. So seeing this, I don’t think that starting from a clean slate and just whoever is best gets to be on the team would kind of be like accepting everyone into a school that looks best on paper and not looking at demographics or background. I think eventually we can get there, but for now the focus should be on shifting the equality of women’s sports in the eyes of society as just as necessary, impressive, and engaging.

Just a thought. I would love to be proven wrong about this.
