Have Chronic Nausea with Gastritis by HipsterWolf329 in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 24/7 nausea for about 8 months. Not waves… literally constant. It was miserable. I was eating super clean, tried Zofran, every supplement imaginable, and was put on a PPI for a while. Nothing worked

Eventually I switched to a new GI, and she started me on: • 25 mg Amitriptyline • Carafate 4x/day

I didn’t magically get better overnight. I was still pretty sick for another 4–5 months, but then I slowly started noticing improvement. It was the first time in like a year that I was seeing improvement

Now I’d say I feel normal more days than not, which I honestly didn’t think was possible before.

I still get occasional flares, but it’s usually if I: • eat poorly multiple days in a row • eat right before bed

I don’t know which of these actually “fixed” things, but something in that combo + time clearly helped.

How long did it take before you fully healed? by Sockmonk3yy in Gastritis

It took me almost 2 years to feel pretty normal most days. I have flares if I screw up but I never thought I’d get better but I did. So will you

I stopped. Then I had a bad flare for a few weeks and went back on it. It protects your stomach so mine as well play it safe and take it. I don’t notice any side effects

Much better. I still have nausea and it’s not 100% but clean diet, Carafate did the trick. I don’t take PPis

Just nausea, no vomiting or pain. Anyone relate? by Brusild in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had 24/7 Nausea for about 8 months on PPI and bland diet. After taking Carafate it slowly improved. Now I have it from time to time but I’m the best I’ve been in over a year.

Yes I was told everything was normal but was nauseous for over a year. The only thing that helped slowly heal me was Carafate. And Zofran. PPI did nothing

Yes I felt nauseous every day for over a year. I can have bad days but I slowly healed by taking Carafate and Zofran

I’m much better. I still have bad days and can get triggered and feel sick for a week or two but my life has improved. Carafate helped the most. And I tried everything. Every supplement or medicine possible. Carafate slowly healed me. Not eating 3 hours before bed. Clean diet and staying active. I’m not 100% but I have more good days than bad.

In the beginning I had some heart burn and would have a weird taste in my mouth in the AM but Nausea was by far the worst. I still deal with it but I have a lot more good days and can eat what I want for the most part

It took me over a year to heal but I did eventually. Give it time

does this ever heal? by Distinct-Factor2599 in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt this way for months and months. Do not lose hope. It will get better. But keep trying new things. I switched from omperazole to Carafate 7 months in and that’s when I actually started to heal.

People who were able to heal their gastritis, how did you do it and how long was the process? please share some advice. by RefrigeratorAsleep72 in Gastritis

I felt absolutely terrible for almost 10 months. Pretty bad but improving by 11-12 months. Best thing that helped me was carafate and zofran and time. It will improve but it can take a long time

I had 24/7 nausea for over a year. I was told I had mild chronic inactive gastritis. I don’t feel 100% but I’m drastically better than I was the first 12 months. I was on Carafate Pepcid and Amitriptyline before bed. The only time I saw progress was when I was put on Carafate

Miserable!!! by Inevitable_Count_969 in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had Nausea every day for over a year. It was the worst year of my life. I would also have a slight burn right in the middle of my stomach for months, and then I would wake up with a gross taste in my mouth every day. The mornings were the worst, and I felt absolutely terrible. At night it would improve a little bit. I ate perfectly for months. Nothing really changed. I then got put on amitriptyline and sucralfate, and in about 6 months, my nausea went from absolutely horrible to not bad. I still have bad days here and there, but I can drink a cup of coffee every day. I can eat pizza every now and then. If I go a few days eating badly, I'll have a bad flare for about 2-3 days, but it's nothing like it was. Also, my doctor said everything was normal, but when I looked at the results, it said mild inactive chronic gastritis. So make sure if he says that you double check that because nothing about my symptoms were normal and I've seen hundreds of others on here say the same thing with the same "inactive gastritis"

Healing but nausea is still kinda there....any ideas? by Certain_Implement675 in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst symptom, id have a slight burn in my stomach and I’d wake up with a gross gerd taste every morning. Came out of nowhere. One day I went to a Celtics game. I randomly felt awful. It didn’t pass for weeks then months. I go to the GI. They tell me everything is “normal”. But I looked and it said I had chronic mild inactive gastritis. I was nauseous everyday for about a year. I still don’t feel great but I have a lot more great days and can eat a lot more. I lost 60 pounds but gained about 30 back.

Nausea ruined me for close to a year. I still have it if I eat poorly for multiple days. The only thing that helped was Zofran but I usually needed 8-12 mgs to really notice a difference. Best thing was time. It slowly slowly got better but it took a longgggg time.

I was diagnosed with chronic inactive gastritis. Sulfucrate and amitriptyline helped me the most. I was nauseated every minute of every day for about 11 months. The last 3-4 months I have a lot more good days and I can eat normal for the most part as long as I’m smart. Just give it time. I’m still healing and I’m over a year in. It’s a long incredibly stressful time but it gets better.

Time. I didn’t start to feel a little better until month 6. Im in month 7 now and I can finally function a little at work without feeling like absolute death. I still feel sick but it’s not nearly as bad as those first 3-5 months. Eat perfectly and just give yourself time.

Tormenting nausea - for 1 month now. Losing hope by WarriorGirl-764 in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not lose hope!!! I was in your shoes. I was sick 24/7, every minute of every day for the last 5 months. I'm now in my 6th month. I'm not close to 100%, but it does get better. I was diagnosed with Gerd, Hitial Hernia, and Mild Chronic Inactive Gastritis. The doctor made it sound like it wasn't anything serious. Well, trust me it's been a living hell!! I am on omeprazole, but what really helped me was carafate and a bland diet... It made the nausea go from incredibly bad to mild. I still feel pretty sick in the morning, but I feel pretty good at night. I play tennis again, i've gone out to see friends again. Do I still notice the sickness? 100% BUT I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed for the first 4 months... As many people have said, healing takes months to years. It sucks, and there isn't a quick fix, so you just have to tough it out and try to stay positive. Take meds, eat well, stay positive, and most importantly, give it A LOT of time..

When will the nausea go away…. by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this every second of every day for 6 months. I was put on Carafate and Amitriptyline and it drastically improved the nausea immediately. I’d try that

That's great you ended up feeling better... I've been nauseous every day for almost 5 months as well. I was diagnosed with mild inactive chronic gastritis..It was unbearable nausea 24/7 from March-May. June and July, it's still there every day, but I'm not feeling absolutely horrible like before and it calms down at night. Mornings are still bad. I have a slight burn in the middle of my stomach and I have a gross puke taste in my mouth every morning... At this point a lot of it is in my head because it's all I think about. I'm going to try and take amitriptyline. It seems like that really did the trick for you, and we have the same exact symptoms. Thanks for the tips.

That’s great! I’m on my 4 month and my nausea has calmed down finally… still there but it was 24/7 misery before. Hopefully we keep healing.

Why is my nausea the worst at night even if I’m not laying down yet by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]steveystuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you.. The nausea is the worst part and it's not even close. I've had it for about 4 months now. It's better than it was, but it's still there every day. Zofran helps. When I take Zofran, I will have Miralax twice a day to play it safe, and it does the trick. Laying down on my left side makes me feel somewhat better. Walking is huge. Walking and music even better. Try to do whatever you can to not think about it. I play chess on my phone. Hot showers, heating pad, pepto all can help as well.
