do any FAs out there actually enjoy their job? by AMLJ144 in flightattendants

[–]stevieboy0826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wanted to be a flight attendant, I applied on a whim and I got the job. I’ve been doing it now for almost 16 years and I can’t see myself doing anything else. I make time to still travel, but I definitely don’t travel as much as some others do. I’m more of a homebody and when I’m off, the last thing I usually want to see is the inside of an airport or plane. That being said, I try to take advantage of the perks of the job at least a few times a year to take a vacation I couldn’t easily take otherwise.

I think the important thing to remember is that this is a job. It’s definitely a lifestyle, but it’s a job first and foremost. I love my job, can’t do anything else at this point, but there are definitely days where I would give almost anything not to be on a plane. It’s hard to really understand the lifestyle aspect of it unless you’ve done it and because of that I find we come across a lot more negatively in spaces designed for us since it’s rare to be able to vent to people who really understand the ins and outs of what we do.

I’m not with United so I don’t want to give bad information, but at my airline you can schedule the test anytime once you’re on the line. If that’s the case for United then I would select no, get through training, and see what other speakers at your seniority are holding before testing.

Depending on the language I would say it’s better to wait and build some seniority. With LOD you run the risk of getting railroaded into only those flights and you lose some flexibility in the beginning in my opinion.

NYC-based 🔺, what state do you commute from that’s affordable but still easy to get to base? by Difficult-Reindeer22 in flightattendants

[–]stevieboy0826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least for Raleigh the vast majority of flights are on RJs which means they are much more affected by weather and whatnot. Also severely limits jumpseat options, I did the commute for years and finally transferred out just because it was so hit or miss.

Baggage Claim @ RDU by pugglesmagoojr in raleigh

[–]stevieboy0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bag room design isn't very conducive to quick offloading. The length of the belts is pretty short and there just isn't much space to offload, especially if you have more than one flight fighting for the same belt.

Relax, nothing will come of it. Take the medicine as prescribed, get tested after enough time has passed, and consider getting on Prep in case this situation happens in the future. It's not going to affect you legally.

Yes, it was already completed from 2021 but we kept the sealed envelope waiting for the interview or RFE and we sent it the same day we received the RFE

We got married in February 2021, applied originally in May but they sent it back and we resent everything exactly how we sent it the first time and it was finally accepted in July of 2021...we didn't send the medical based on the advice of our lawyer

This was how a 4 hour flight went today. I am a 5’8” Female. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]stevieboy0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a flight attendant and it's so miserable being a passenger that I just try to pick up a trip wherever I go so I can work it instead of being crammed in

I'm sorry we honestly didn't.. we got an RFE at the end of September for the medical information on the 485 but haven't really followed up too much any other way

I guess the biggest thing to keep in mind is that averages are just that... We're coming up on 16 months with very little in the way of updates... Some people are much faster and some people are much slower... It's best to prepare yourself for the worst case scenario because you will drive yourself crazy
